Well Saturday was a fun filled, busy grand kiddo day with some fine eatin'. The weather was filled with sunshine an a gentle cool breeze that made for long sleeves when outdoors. Bobby and his family came for lunch and left the kiddos to play with the Ross kiddos then headed out to a meeting. After a lunch the Ross's took all the kiddos to the park for a couple hours before coming back for supper.
The day started with a before 6'ish rollout for me which is usual. Nancy slept in until 7'ish then we got busy after our quiet times and a lite breakfast. It was 62 degrees outside and that was about as warm as it got for the day as a front moved through with cooler temps, no clouds or rain but a brisk constant northern breeze kept it sweater weather. I headed out to hand water the garden after my routines and an apple for breakfast. I got out the smoker and loaded it with apple and hickory wood. I wanted to have the 2 slabs of pork ribs on by 11'ish for my 3-2-1 recipe. 3 hours under smoke on the open faced racks, then 2 hours covered in a boat of foil with Dr.Pepper as the liquid then 1 hour again open faced on the racks with what ever sauce you wanted. I covered one rack with Sonny's sauce and left one rack just plain with the original seasonings. They were awesome!!
Nancy had picked up deli meat and my favorite bread which is pumpernickel for our lunch sandwiches. I made a great guacamole as well which we licked the bowl clean(or I did). After this lunch with Bobby's gang they left for a meeting then Amy gang arrived for lunch and the kiddos were so glad to see each other. Around 2'ish Amy and Tyler took all the kiddos with them to their house to play and then to the park for an hour or so and they were all back here by 4:30. Nancy had a huge pot of fresh green beans cooking, along with oven taters slathered in fresh parsley, rosemary and olive oil and I cut a huge head of cabbage so Bobby could make his gourmet cole slaw without mayo as the base. Wow was that ever delicious and so lite and beautiful to look at. He used some apple cider vinegar with caramelized fresh scallions from the garden and sugar over the bed of chopped cabbage, red and yellow peppers and carrots. Well needless to say we nearly cleaned everything up except for a smidgen of slaw, beans and a couple ribs. The kiddos had worked up an appetite and even little Eliza cleaned her rib bone better than anyone except me. She loved the meat on the bone and even had a second one.
Well Nancy had thawed out one of the pastries from the school fund raising projects and baked it so that was cleaned up as well; of course that was chocolate and the kiddos liked that. It wasn't long until it was bath and shower time for the kiddos before heading home as they all would be asleep as soon as they got on the road. Bobby and his gang left around 7'ish as he had an early morning filling in for a worship pastor in north Tampa and Amy's gang left shortly thereafter as well. I waited until the water heater caught up with the use of hot water as I did the dishes and the long showers by the kiddos. By 10'ish I was ready for some horizontal lab and the flannel sheets were so inviting on this cool evening. We had the windows open despite the chill in the air with all of the energy in the room. The kiddos were flying around the room playing and we knew once they settled down they would shortly be asleep, LATER
Don't forget to take this morning and worship with others and pray for our country as we lost a very dear conservative justice Antoni Scalia who sat on the supreme court.
I almost forgot to mention that Nancy and the kiddos made Valentine cookies for a couple hours after lunch and I vacuumed decorations from the floor after they left for ever. Thankfully the park helped with diffusing most of this sugar high.
