Well Saturday was basically a fun day with nothing much done in the way of chores or projects. We hiked, read and then went to a catfish fry at our small group leaders house with about a dozen or so other friends and family members. I did get into several corn toss games and at times was right on the mark and other times missed completely. It was an awesome day weather wise with just enough clouds to keep it in the middle 70's all day long.
I started the day with my usual 6'ish roll out and my routines and then a few quiet moments before heading out to check on the gardens for any overnight damage. It seems the deer are broadening their tastes for garden veggies as they nearly ate up the one garden patch at the home where the fish fry was held. Yikes they came right into the yard which was inside a fence and an open field all around to eat their plants down . So far here at the cabin they have just eaten my berry bushes but I'm sure I'm in for a rude awakening one morning as my beans are blooming.
We took a hike around mid morning and there were several cars on top of the mountain but we saw no one out and about. We came back and finished the leftover salad and deer salami with cheese on crackers. I piddled around outside for awhile then finished the Lee Child book THE AFFAIR while sitting in a rocker on the back porch. It's hard to describe the serenity of gazing out into the wooded back yards and seeing the various beautiful flower gardens while rocking away and reading.
We got word the Ross Family(Amy, Tyler & kiddo's) got away from Kansas with a good start but soon little Sammy became carsick and and threw up on himself and the back seat so there was quite a delay while that was cleaned up and then we saw where they took a side trip to Laura Engels Wilder's house and museum in Missouri where she wrote the"Little House on the Prairie" books. They called later in the evening after getting a motel somewhere in Tennessee for the night and should get back to Seminole later this evening. They were sort of bummed after 2 weeks of fun and visiting with family and facing the two day trip back home which is expected. We are still that way when we have quests here in the mountains leave.
Well we enjoyed the evening at the Crouse House as we headed out around 5'ish . We stopped and picked up our little mountain buddy, Caleb Dalton who is not so little anymore as he has shot up to nearly as tall as myself. He told us all about his trip to Europe and expressed while it was nice to visit there was nothing like coming back to America and Allegheny County. He is a real country boy at heart and quite the outdoors man. We played a couple different teams at the fish fry in corn toss. We won a couple and lost a couple games and then he wiped the floor with me in a singles match 2 out of 3 games. He had one off game in which he let me win. We got him home just before dark then we headed home after a short visit with his momma, Mechelle. It wasn't long until it was hot shower and then I started a new Lee Child read until the sandman cometh, LATER
