Sunday Morning August 8th

Well Saturday was another great day with temps in the 60's to start the day and it may have reached the upper 70's by late afternoon. We did get a nice soaking half inch of rain around supper time which caused the temps to drop back down into upper 50's by dark. You could almost see the greening of the grass with this much needed rain. I feel that we will have an early fall for some reason as the cicadas are already molting and making their presence known.

I started the day with a 6'ish roll out to my usual routines but cut short my social media updates as I attended the prayer breakfast with about 20 or so other men at Cornerstone at 8. I wanted to get in my solo hike before heading out around 7:30. The breakfast was delicious to say the least with gravy and biscuits, scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon, grits, sliced tomatoes and cut up fruit. What a feed and that held me until supper. We heard a great message on David vs Goliath and how GOD save him and the nation with this young lad who was a caretaker of the herd and not a warrior like his brothers.

I came back and piddled around in the gardens harvesting more cucumbers and squash and then I dusted my kale which seem to be the favorite of some insects that leave little holes in the leaves. The rain washed it off during the evening but I'm hoping enough stayed on to discourage their appetites throughout the day. We took off on a long hike to the top together before the noon hour and stopped and visited with the Ben and Laura and then headed on across where we visited with Roddy and Kathy who had their roof fixed by a fellow who lives locally by the name of Woodruff. He fixed the problem the builders failed to build properly and charged the owner less than 350 bucks. Wow what a job as we saw him on our walk the other day on the ladder reconstructing the area which had sunken in due to rain leaking in and rotting the sub roof.

We came back down around 1'ish and Nancy had a lite lunch which I passed on except for a couple peanut butter crackers. We then both sat on the porch and read the afternoon away until 5'ish when I headed out to harvest some Swiss chard and beet greens for our supper. We sauteed them in water and then we had some yellow squash and a brat and some left over October beans. Everything was delicious to say the least and the harvested veggies were so flavorful.

The storm moved into the area and the much needed rain was a blessing to say the least and with it the temps dropped dramatically. We played some Kings on the Corner and a game of gin before the Ray's game came on TV and Nancy whupped me in both games big time. The Ray's whupped the Orioles big time as well and it was in the 8th inning I hit the shower and then some horizontal lab, LATER
