Monday Morning July 8th

Well Sunday was a great day of worship with our Cornerstone Family and then Nancy and I ate alone at the Japanese eatery in Sparta as I love the food but most of our mountain friends avoid eating there however we saw many of our church family there. We did some in town shopping the specials at the only grocery in town, Food Lion and they are starting to cater to folks with their weekly bogo's much like Publix does.

I started the day much the usual with a before 6 rollout to my morning cup of hot green tea laced with turmeric while I posted this ramble about the events of the day before's activities then spent some quiet time with my Creator in thanksgiving and lifting up several who are hurting or just need comfort; a couple need miracles which is always possible with Christ Jesus. Mechelle called and wanted to borrow both kayaks so I headed out to hook up the bed extension for the kayaks to ride on and then loaded both of them along with everything they needed to float down the New River. Daughter Kallie and fiancee Juan along with friends were in town over the weekend and wanted a float before heading back to Raleigh where they now live.

The total worship at Cornerstone was quite memorable as well. We had a young 15 year old girl sing You Say by Lauren Daigle and when you closed your eyes you would have thought it was her singing on stage. Wow, this young lady has matured over the past couple years and while we always thought her and her friends were still just kids in elementary school. Pastor Brian had one of his better messages and the praise music was the best ever. We at one point thought we were worshipping at BridgePoint with the music; it was awesome and the solo was icing on the cake.

There were lots of new faces and we met a young man sitting behind us and I struck up a conversation with him who survived a horrible crash with a tractor trailer a few months back. We got to taking before the service started and he showed me the Honda he was driving and it was unrecognizable as a vehicle. I've worked some bad crashes over the 30 years and I must say he was a miracle to survive this crash. He wants to be a police officer and when I mentioned what I did he was very interested. He is put together with pins, bolts, screws and long rods in his arms and legs but was walking with a cane. This was his first time at Cornerstone that we remember and hopefully he will come back because we were talking to someone who GOD wasn't through with yet.

The food at Kapan was delicious and so reasonable. We both had the terriyaki chicken with carrot's fresh veggies and fried rice and while I had a trip to the salad bar and Nancy had the sweet and sour soup all for less than 6 bucks for lunch. The greeter remembered my middle name from last year and just amazes me with her memory she also remembered Patrick's name as I described him to her. Mia is her name and now I must remember that to impress her. We maybe ate there a couple times over the years but she is very friendly and I think its her parents who own and run the place. There were several folks eating there along with several families.

Well we stocked up once again as we are anticipating both Bobby and Amy's families arriving this week. Amy on Thursday for smoked ribs and Bobby on Friday for spaghetti and meatballs all of which can be prepared ahead of time. We will travel over to Elk Park to purchase some home grown lamb which we all love. Bobby makes some delicious lamb burgers and we love roasted leg of lamb as it makes the best gravy ever for smashed taters. I ordered a pork loin with the bone in for chops and a roast as well from the local butcher. We should have plenty to dine on as well as some specials the kiddos love. Amy wants to go by W.Va. and see Paw Paw on their way out to visit Tyler's family in Kansas. It will be out of the way but she hasn't seen him in nearly 9 years and he has never seen Eliza Faye; Sam was but a baby when she last visited.

We did get in a shortened hike as the thunder was booming in the distance just as we headed up the mountain. The rain was very light despite the clouds darkening the skies to almost night time. I thought we were really in for another gully washer but the wind blew away the storm and the sun came out again so after the Ray's game, which I watched on the internet I headed out to loosen up the compacted soil around the garden veggies. Since we had a large lunch we just ate a sandwich for supper around 7'ish. Well that was about it for the day as we have lots to do before the family arrives on Thursday. We are excited as is Sam who has a count down calendar for when they arrive. That was about it for the day as it wasn't long after a hot shower it was horizontal lab for me, LATER

Some of the views we have on the way home from Sparta after church. Nancy loves to take different roads of which there are many and this is one of our favorite routes which takes us by our "mountain mom" Helen's driveway.
