Well Saturday started with the first attempt for Amy and her family to leave for Florida somewhere around 5'ish in the morning when grandson Sam threw up. So I got up and made some ginger water for him to drink and that helped with his nausea. Everyone went back to bed and slept in until around 7:30 or so when they made a second attempt to head out. It was 8:45 when they pulled away. Sam was feeling some what better but Ava Mae was crying as she didn't want to leave and cried off an on until they reached home last night some time going on 10. It's really quiet around here without the family and the grands.
Well after they left we too had tears for awhile. I managed to finish my quiet time and post this ramble before having a bowl of boring oatmeal but we had been having great breakfast's the past week with; pancakes, bacon, eggs, sausages and biscuits, yeow did we ever eat well not only for breakfast's but the entire week. I know my pants fit a little more snug around the waist despite all of the activities and playing with the grand's. We had leftovers for lunch and then again for supper as we clean out the fridge.
We were both sad but we always get right into being busy which helps when ever anyone leaves the cabin, especially our children and the grand's. Nancy had the washing machine on high alert and the clothesline was full all day long. The weather was perfect for drying clothes outside with an occasional high cloud. I headed out to work in the garden as it needed hoeing, fertilizing and some weed pulling. It sure helped being busy to fill the lonely spot in my heart. I thought about mowing but decided to wait another day or so when I spotted one of my nemesis, a barely protruding rock in the lower part of the yard. So whenever I mow a certain way I hit this rock. I had dug out a huge rock the other day after it had rained which made it easier when the ground was wet so I though I will give this a shot.
Well this rock was just barely showing above ground but when I started to dig it started to grow as well. It must have weighted a thousand pounds and using the fulcrum system I managed to loosen it enough to know it had to go. I dug and dug and finally managed to show the whole rock which was 5 feet long 2 feet across and at least a foot or more thick, yikes. Maybe a 6 inch square of the rock was visible when mowing but what I was now seeing was huge. Nancy suggested covering it back up with dirt and forgetting about it but I could move it a little in its hole and I thought no way was I covering it. I brought out the sledge hammer and pick and busted it up into 7 pieces which I managed to roll out of the hole and line the lower yard. Needless to say that project helped to forget the sadness in my heart. My shirt was wringing wet with sweat.
I headed out into the backyard woods to my dirt pit and it took two full loads of dirt on the golf cart to fill the now empty hole and then I sowed grass seeds and covered them with some old hay to hold the moisture. What a job that was. Nancy heard our once neighbor Pam with the many dogs and mostly biting pit bulls over at her abandoned and unfinished cabin; due to her husband suddenly passing away 2 years ago. The place looks like a land fill stacked inside and out with hoarder items as well as abandon vehicles; any how we spoke with her and she is getting no help from her son and she may decide to sell the place. We spoke with her about selling and that we had a neighbor interested which perked her interest somewhat. She said she would make a decision this Fall whether to sell or not.
Well we worked until nearly 5 o'clock catching up on small chores after the "rock project" which plumb wore me out. We sat on the the porch and chatted with Amy from time to time as they progressed toward's home. Ava Mae was still teary eyed and Sam still had an occasional throw up and he and Eliza Faye were annoying each other from time to time, which caused us to laugh. We spoke with our "mountain mom" and she had a great visit with her son who was here the same time our kid's were here. We never got to see her as we didn't know if there was a bug with the grand's and didn't want to expose her to one. Eliza Faye had a little loose bowels for a couple of days(which never slowed her down) and which is probably what Sam may have caught only his symptoms where completely different.
Well we decided around 7'ish to take a much needed hike to the top of the mountain; the first in many days and many meals. Our legs were screaming as we finally made the summit after many rest stops but the view was awesome as always. The place was abandoned even our friends the Brownings were gone and we spoke with no one. The walk was pleasant across the top and then much nicer on the way down the mountain. We did notice our hand rail at the top of the back trail was completely gone as if someone broke it off and discarded it out of sight. I will have to put another one in place as it very helpful the last couple of steps up the steep bank. We came back and sat on the front porch in a nice cool evening breeze. We piddled around in the flower gardens pulling some weeds until it was nearly dark before heading in and to the hot showers. Wow was it ever quiet around. We were both worn out from the past week as well as the day's activities so it was off to some horizontal lab for me with a book until 10'ish, LATER
Don't forget to take a few moments to gather with others on the Sunday to worship and to pray for healing for our land and those police officers families who were murdered needlessly. If ever there was a an example of a hate crime this is one. This inept leadership has promoted this cause to exploit our law enforcement community with their blatant disregard for the law that it is now becoming the norm and now we see a different set of standards for the elites and their regard for the law as well with this decision to not indict Hillary.
