Friday Morning

Well Thursday was another work day around the cabin after my usual roll out at 6'ish and my morning routines. I took a few moments to reflect, give thanks and offer up those near and dear who need some divine intervention because of health concerns, those that we know who are traveling and of course our friends and family. It's such a peaceful serene setting so early in the morning with the cool fresh air and such stillness to be alone with your Creator.

After a rather unusual breakfast of leftover cheesecake I headed out to check on the gardens and since its been dry the past day or so the slugs activity had decreased but the Japanese beetles are on the rise with their presence now on just about every different plants and especially the daisy and rose blooms. I just checked the morning glory on the arbor while looking out and no blooms this morning but yesterday I had 4 beautiful blue flowers, oh well!!!

I took my chop off saw and gathered up the apple and plum tree limbs that neighbor Carl saved for me from when he prunes his trees and chopped the branches into smoker size pieces. I filled 3 large cardboard boxes and stored them for further use for my electric smoker which gives off an awesome taste on any kind of meat. After that job I noticed the 5 gallon can of water proofing was still sitting in the basement which I bought to do the deck and since that area was in the shade and it was rather breezy with no rain in the forecast I tackled that job with a 6 inch brush on my knees for the next 4-5 hours. Wow was that ever a back breaking job but I "gotter done" and had to finish the last section after supper as the sun had reached that area. I waited until the shade once more covered that portion of the deck. I might use a roller next time for a second coat in a couple weeks.

We sat on the back porch and had a salad that came completely from my garden. This is the first year my lettuces have done well and I picked 3 different varieties along with kale, beet greens, spinach, Swiss chard, cucumbers and radishes to add to the mix, yeow was that ever delicious with Nancy's homemade Greek dressings and the last of the pumpernickel bread. It was starting to heat up with temps in the upper 70's so Nancy had 3 loads of laundry on the line which dried almost immediately throughout the morning and early afternoon. We decided to do our daily hike later in the evening so I piddled around in the garden and sowed some beet and carrot seeds to see if they would grow. I heard neighbor Gerald down below and who came by for a hand on getting a foos ball table in his basement which required some finagling.

Nancy wanted to check the mail so we took on the golf cart out to the mailbox then stopped and visited with Russ and Linda who are down from Ohio and then George and Gail came by for a spell as well. It was going on 5'ish when we headed back to the cabin to start on a supper of tacos. I added a fresh garden grown jalapeno pepper to mine. I finished the deck which was now in the shade while Nancy cleaned up from supper and then we took off to the top of the mountain on a hike.

We saw Sarah and her pooch Lexie on a walk and then chilled on the front porch of the Brownings for a quite awhile catching up on all their news. She showed us a gorgeous handmade quilt she is entering into the quilt show later this month and also agreed to look at Nancy's quilt which needs some repairs from the sun damage. Jetta is an awesome seamstress and this quilt she sowed and showed us almost made you want to live in this town she created with fabric. We headed back down the mountain and I was stiff from all the bending over applying the waterproofing that I jumped into the hot shower to limber up. I think along with the pickle ball the night before and on my knees most of the day whupped me so it was off for some horizontal lab with a Lee Child book until 10:30, LATER
