Well Thursday once again had some fantastic weather and by late evening we had a nice measurable rain fall. We took off for Galax to do some shopping at Wal-Mart around 10, gas up(its 20 cents a gallon cheaper than Sparta), eat lunch at Wendy's which we seldom eat fast food but they have a chicken sandwich comparable to Chick filet in size and taste, pick up fresh veggies at Horton's and lastly buy some fresh new sweet corn seeds and okra. Speaking of sweet corn Wal-Mart had ears of sweet corn at 5 for a buck; haven't seen that in years and it was delicious with melted butter and salt, yikes that was our evening supper along with a guacamole I made using our garden onion, cilantro and thyme.
The day started with me sleeping in until close to 7. Those stumps have been kicking my butt but I can feel the muscles starting to bulge a little which takes away from the belly bulge. That sure beats lifting weights in the gym and the ambiance is much more pleasurable as well. I've just about finished with the digging and cutting until I either blow them loose the rest of the way or out of the hole completely with Caleb's explosives or I use neighbor Gerald's tractor to extract them or my last option is to burn them in the hole.
We got home somewhere around 2 and found a most disturbing piece of news on the recorder. It seems our neighbor through the woods who is a local restaurant owner and cook died while preparing breakfast this morning at his place of business. "Nub" Johnson had a massive heart attack and by the time Pam his wife could get him off the mountain to a hospital he had passed. They are the neighbors with the collection of pit bull dogs so we only saw them when passing on the road as the dogs were somewhat unpredictable in their demeanor. She occasionally would come by and we very seldom ate at their café as it was mostly fried foods. He was somewhere in his 50's and was a heavy smoker. We are saddened for the family as their son was killed in a vehicle crash a couple years ago in Germany. They are originally from Lexington.
Well we took a hike after supper and visited with the Browning's on top. They too had heard the news of Nub's passing. None of us were thrilled with their collection of vicious dogs which at times sounded like a kennel. We came back and worked outside in the yard. Ray Todd came by and gave us the particulars on his passing as he ate there everyday. Seems Nub had been having some chest pains from time to time but did little to help with his condition as he continued to smoke heavily and eat the fried foods he prepared which led to his fatal attack this morning.
Well it was a hot shower and then some Fox News before the sandman called around 10:30, LATER
