Well Monday turned out to be a great day for working outside after my 2 plus hours of pickle ball at the rec. The skies were overcast and it looked like rain a couple times but the temps were nice which allowed me to be in shorts and t-shirt.
The morning started much the usual with a 6'ish roll out, a cup of green tea, a few quiet moments then the posting of this ramble before a lite breakfast of a left over buckwheat cake. I pedaled out to the rec for a 7:30 start with 8 other players until 10 AM. Well what a workout as its been 4 days since I last had a wet shirt from a workout and I needed it after the Thanksgiving holiday where when my elbow bent my mouth was open stuffing in rich delicious food. Yikes there went the spare tire inflating again. Anyhow we had good play and stayed at it with all good advanced players.
I stopped off at the library for a new read for Nancy as my new reads haven't come in yet that I have on order. I've found this new author of non-fiction reads named David Roberts. He is fantastic and some of his books really interest me. The ALONE ON THE ICE was a great read and well researched. He is also an avid mountain climber and writes about his climbs on some of the worlds tallest mountains as well as researches and writes about the arid Southwest and some of the Indian lore around the most ferocious chiefs and fighters of their day. I have that book on order and wait expectantly for it to arrive.
I worked in the garden until Amy and Sam came for lunch. We had a nice salad and now I'm starting to in addition to the herbs add beet greens, romaine lettuce, Swiss chard as well as some spinach to our salads. I transplanted several lettuce seedling of black seeded Simpson, romaine, Bibb and red leaf as well as some hot Serrano peppers. I never could get my bell pepper seeds to sprout for some reason. My green tomatoes are getting larger each day and I'm hoping they will begin to ripen shortly. The sugar peas are doing great and are starting to climb on the chain link fence.
After lunch I worked with Sam on his stance for hitting and his swing for t-ball and he showed a lot of improvement. He still squints and closes his eyes when you pitch the ball to him but hopefully we can work on that later. He loves being outside in the back yard with me as his imagination runs rampant. He definitely loves playing in the dirt. After they left I retired to the reading room for a new novel read by Tami Hoag. This is the first book, THE 9TH GIRL of hers I've read and she keeps you interested. Nancy was busy taking advantage of the cyber sales from the Disney stores for Annsley and Ava. Just what the girls need are more dolls. I would venture to say they have at least 8-10 theme dolls apiece, oh well!!!
Well Nancy is feeling much better but made an appointment with the doctor to address her heartburn, Gerd or whatever it's called. I emphasized using a little baking soda and water whenever she gets that feeling but she refuses to heed my advice so she will opt out for some prescription that will effect her in another way. The last time she had and endoscopy and the doc put her on a script that made her heart race so that was a waste as she never used it. Sometime the old fashion fix is the best and of course sometimes it's not, seems ever since menopause set in she has been a mess despite being in the post for some time now, Oh well!!!
She made a very tasty chicken pot pie for supper and we cleaned it up as she had some leftover homemade pie crust from a Thanksgiving pecan pie she made. Yeow was that ever delicious. After the cleanup I settled into the Fox News and then O'Reilly before retreating to the bedroom and MNF. Wow I think this Seahawk team is for real as they were whupping the Saints big time when I shut the lights off at 11, LATER... Here are few garden pics Nancy took.
