Thursday Morning August 5th

Well this month is moving right along. I have been noticing its starting to stay dark longer in the mornings; when I usually awaken before 6 its now still dark outside whereas before the daylight was quite evident at this hour, oh well summer is in the waning stages and winter is on its way. Wednesday was a work day to start with and then we entertained Jake and Katelyn and Skylar for supper and then they took our measurements for new cabinets, counter tops and some additional cabinetry in the kitchen area. Hopefully we will get an estimate soon so we can make a decision as to when we must make some changes to our guests schedules as we want him to install them over the winter when we are gone. I'm not sure why we are doing this as I like the way the cabin has served us for years, but Nancy feels we must do this right away.

I started the day out much the usual with a before 6 roll out to my cup of hot tea and it was much needed on this chilly morning with temps in the 50's. I did my blog then some quiet time with my Creator and Lord giving thanks and lifting several up by name for comfort and healing. All seem to be holding as of this date. I did my non stop before breakfast solo hike to the top of the mountain and it was a joy to be able to climb that steep back woods trail without stopping. I do a little talk with GOD on the way as well praising Him and this creation and that I'm able to enjoy it still with these early morning walks.

I checked out the gardens and flower beds and all are thriving. I harvested a few cucumbers, more lettuces and a couple squash as well as as a handful of green beans which had matured enough to pick. I'll soon have more than I can eat as the plants are just loaded with little ones. I did harvest a couple large green peppers as well. The flower beds are vibrant with colors and the zinnias are finally showing several heads on one stalk. We have an abundance of black eyed Susan's this year with most all being volunteers in several beds as well as a few wild flowers that come back yearly. I just love the many colors that are so mixed togethers. I'm having to hand water the gardens now daily as we could use a little rain which was forecasted but none fell. The grasses are still looking good and I hauled three golf cart loads of dirt to fill in some ruts and low places.

Nancy warmed up the smoked pork butt I cooked off when Bobby was here and we had frozen about 4 pounds of it. She also made a pot of dried October beans which were the first they had ever eaten and they loved them as well as a garden fresh yellow squash casserole, a garden salad and corn bread made with fresh buttermilk. What a feast to say the least and Katelyn brought a delicious cheese cake for dessert with a home made blueberry and lemon topping. Skylar was a hit as she loved being able to now walk around and we found her one time nearly all the way up the steep stairs. She is a quick one to get around now that she is walking. She is such a cutie and she comes to me at will whereas she is a little stand offish to Nancy.

Well today is my last day at 74 and I will proceed to the 3/4 century age tomorrow or as I like to say 7 1/2 decades old which sounds younger, oh well, LATER
