Monday Morning Aug 18th

Well Sunday turned out to be a little on the warm side but with lots of sunshine and blue skies and a few rain clouds around but none fell on our place although we saw evidence of a shower in between Sparta and the cabin. It was a great afternoon for the church picnic along the river bottom where we had several baptism's for both the youth and adults.

I started the morning with a sleep in until nearly 7'ish for a change and was fuzzy for the first hour or so. It was church day so we finally got our act together and left the cabin around 9:30 after watching Gary Hamrick from Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg, Va.,and then again from our Pastor B at Cornerstone in Sparta. Both had fine messages and then he baptized several before lunch in the Little River. The church provided all of the food which was burgers, dogs, Cole slaw, chili and the fixin's plus chips and watermelon and drinks. We members brought desserts and Nancy made a couple dozen of oatmeal coconut chocolate chip cookies which were awesome to say the least. We stayed until close to 2'ish before heading back to the cabin to chill for the rest of the day. It had warmed up to the low 80's so the a/c was on until dark when we shut it off until bed time.

The lunch held us the rest of the day except for some pop corn done the old fashion way around 7'ish. We both watched a couple LLWS games during the afternoon and then after a hot shower around 8'ish I read until lights out. We did take our first trip in the Blue Ridge Parkway from out entrance to US 21 which had been closed for a couple years as a bridge was being replaced. What a nice drive and its so much quicker now that it is open to get to Sparta and we hope the rest of the parkway will open so as to travel to the Boone area next summer which is another straight shot there, oh well.

I did hand water the cucumber before dark as the vines were starting to dry up after all the wet weather for a couple weeks. They are still producing but not nearly as well. We are getting more tomato's as well as yellow squashes and jalapeno peppers but no Bell peppers. It seems the fence I put up around the October beans is working as I have new leaves on the vines and I'm hoping to get a mess before the vines die, oh well. That was about it for this day, LATER
