Well Friday turned out to be a rather nice day with temps once again in the low 70's. A few clouds were scattered throughout which made for some coolness at times and by late evening a light rain fell and did so most of the night. Thankfully no gully washers. It's still lightly raining as I make this post at 6:30 in the morning. It's still pitch black out especially with the overcast.
I was up at my usual time around 6'ish and after a few moments to honor my Creator and lift up those I know who need some special considerations I had a light breakfast of cereal before heading outside. I knew the forecast was for rain later in the day and on Saturday so I wanted to finish up the garden work. The two raised beds in the back yard were over grown with weeds and the dead tomato plants needed taken out as well. The Zinnias had grown so tall they were falling over completely hiding the beets and carrots which the deer had eaten most of the tops off. I noticed the Thyme plant had fallen over and was starting to root so I cut that area lose from the main plant and repotted it so I could take it back to Florida with me next month.
Well that kept me busy until it was time to hike the mountain. It was great day for hiking and it seems we are getting back our mountain legs slowly. We ran into the Nancy and Mike on top as they were up checking on their beautiful real log home that is for sale and then we saw Ann and Sandy who were out for a hike as well. We stopped and chatted with them and the first thing led to another which ended up talking about recipes and food; so we were close to the lunch hour and decided to cut the hike short and head back down the mountain for a bowl of vegetable soup.
Well after lunch I fired up the weed whacker and starting mowing down the small pine trees, briars and other plants that were staring to take over the cleared area in the backwoods. That kept me busy for the next couple hours. It was just such a great day for working outside and I knew with the rain expected the next day that I would be kept inside. I did manage to sit in the sun on the deck for an hour before supper reading. We had baked cod fish, Swiss chard from the garden and a rice pilaf for our evening meal. I doctored my rice up with a jalapeno pepper that had the sweat running from my eyes, yeow was that ever delicious. After the cleanup I settled into the Fox News channel and then watched a little of the MLB playoff game between the Cardinals and the Cubs. The red birds were winning when I decided it was shower time and then to curl up with my book, LATER
