Saturday Morning

Well Friday was a busy fun filled day from the start, WOW is all I can say. It started with a 6'ish roll out and then we were busy getting the cabin in last minute shape for our 3 couples who would be staying with us as well as 2 more couples to be here for meals over the weekend. We did our usual quiet time and had a lite breakfast of oatmeal before I headed down to square up with neighbor Gerald on a load of gravel for the driveway. I got to see what a fine strong young man Gabriel his son has become as he was visiting from Raleigh. It's hard to believe he is driving alone as he made his made up to the mountain by himself. Where did that time go as it seemed only yesterday he was just a small guy wearing his red gum boots everywhere he went.

We met up with the Botbyl's and Kathryn and headed down the mountain to Shelton's Vineyard to meet up with our Florida visitors who had flown in to Greensboro for the Carlson wedding which happens today(sat). We did a tour of the estate winery and then brought some of the fine wine back to the cabin to accompany a delicious supper. After getting up the mountain to some much cooler temps than they were use to they changed into winter clothes and then we took a couple golf cart rides to the top of our mountain. Yikes was there ever some drastic changes on top with many large trees gone from the Browning's and the Moore places as well as several other yards on top. I met the new owner of the Shally Place which has been vacant for years and Norms place was up for sale as well.

The boys, Bobby, Neal and Jon all took off to Galax for some goodies so I took the gals on a golf cart ride to the top. It was a first for Katie and several years since either Danielle or Melinda had been to the top. We had a great ride and it was fun introducing them to all our mountain friends. After the boys got back we all took a hike minus the old folks to the top and cut that hike a little short as once more there was thunder in the hills. We got back just as the skies opened up and a short but heavy rain fell which was followed by bright sunshine.

While the marinated chicken breasts cooked on the grill we got into a game of corn toss on the deck and that was a perfect flat place to play the game. We had pasta salad, broccoli, garden salad and chicken. Kathryn made 2 chocolate silk pies for dessert which were awesome. Shortly after the cleanup I had some dry wood in the tool shed so we were able to get a nice campfire going in spite of the wet wood. We sat around the fire for a couple hours laughing and having a fine time. Dan, Carol, Kathryn and Patrick all headed back to their cabin so we youngun's decided to play a new game until nearly midnight. I'm sure it would have gone longer but those 6 were up at 4 in the morning to make their flight from St.Pete to here and I was totally ready for some horizontal lab as I'm usually down by 10'ish.

It was a fun day with some great eatin' as well. Lots of golf cart rides and even a late night ride with 2 couples. There was checker playing as well as games of gin rummy and of course the ubiquitous Iphones. I think at one time everyone but Nancy and I were on their devices, oh well such is the younger general labeled as millennials, LATER
