Well time just continues to slip away and already August is here which is a cause for celebration as we will travel to Winchester, Virginia the second week for reunions and family get together's as well a I turn another year older; so far I still feel 39 but the the body is showing the milage. We still have our house guests until Sunday when they head back to Florida but we are expecting another set of friends coming in this evening and they will be here through October. They rent a place for their stay but we will have many get togethers through out the rest of the summer.
I started the day much the usual with a 6'ish roll out to my morning routines that start with the proverbial cup of hot green tea laced with turmeric while I post this ramble about the day before's activities, spend some time with my Creator just giving thanks and lifting several by name and then checking the world and local news as well as giving my 2 cents on articles found on facebook. I know many of you share my political views and many of you do not which is what makes life great while living in a society that allows free speech and thoughts; however much of those freedoms and liberties are being eroded by an academia that extolls liberal ideology while destroying the very fabric which gives them the freedom to do so. This socialist idealism is so far out there for ruining the American Dream which all of us had at one time and gave us rugged individualism, free thinking and the desire to better our selves through hard work. That maybe going away if the progressive liberal party side of the dem's gets their way. I finally broke down and watched the debate or the vitriol against our potus and this nation. We are on the cusp of losing the nation if they are elected which the biased msm is promoting because of their hatred for Potus Trump.
Dan and Carol took off for the Wellness Center for their morning workout so I caught up on some chores and piddled around the cabin until we took off for another trip off the mountain. We ate lite for breakfast as we all wanted to feast at the Cracker Barrel which we did around 1'ish. We made another stop at the Harris Leather Shop for hats for the girls with the logo of the shop then headed over to another dress shop called Cato's which Nancy and Carol really like. They brought home a handful of clothes on hangars yesterday and Dan and I were beside our selves they wanted more; Nancy has already taken over the closet except for a small area which is designated for my clothes which are not new and most are hand me downs, oh well.
I harvested and cleaned two colanders of lettuces as well as another cucumber with several more coming on and I have several small green tomato's forming on almost all the plants in both planters. Nancy has several volunteer tomato's in her flower beds as I used the compost soil when transplanting her bedding flowers when we first got here. These volunteers tomato's are as big as the ones in my garden and they get no care at all; whats with that. I found another large cucumber just as we were leaving for the day which I had over looked while looking for them. They blend in so well its hard to see them.
We had a delicious filling lunch at the Cracker Barrel; I had the fried chicken prepared the old home way, Nancy the meat loaf, Carol the beef pot roast and Dan the chicken pot pie all of which was so tasty and great to look at. We waddled out of the place then took a side trip after a shopping stop at Walmart in Elkin. We headed over to Traphill a small community on the Roaring River to check out a place our friend Eddie Harris mentioned was a good place to eat. It was closed but did look somewhat inviting nestled back in the woods right on the river plus there was a winery there as well. There are lots of vineyards in our area at the foot of the mountain. We took a back road over to the Stone Mountain area and stopped at the old Country General Store outside the park area. Several rock sliders were there visiting from Winston-Salem with their kiddos having a cool slide down the smooth rocks and into the water, yikes that is some cold water coming out of the mountain.
We headed home up the twisty winding back road and saw where a rain storm had passed through the area and that another one was on the way. We chilled, napping, etc and relaxing until the sun came out around 5'ish and then Nancy, Dan and I took a nice long hike to the top of the mountain and then down the backwoods trail to the cabin.
I fired up the outside burner on the grill and fried up enough bacon for BLT's for our late supper. I could have passed but they looked so good and the smell of bacon, mayo, sliced tomato's on toasted herb bread was just too much for my senses, yikes was that ever delicious and of course I added a slice of sweet onion to mine. We were going to play cards but realize there was debate of the front runners in the dem party were on TV so we watched and wow if these folks get elected the USA is in big trouble; maybe the end times are near because these folks are so out there with their beliefs and policies they want for this nation. GOD forbid any ever get elected and we must defeat them and those who think like they do next election. I stomached what I could until 10:30 then headed for the shower and finally some horizontal lab, LATER
Here are few pics as we headed out for our hike and then after the rain the newts come out. We saw two in the same area which is almost unheard of. They look like rubber toys and the grand kiddos loved playing with them.
