Well Saturday was one of those days that had a mixture of work and play and even some almost forgotten dance steps as we partied with a great bunch of folks at the wedding of a sweet beautiful girl we have know since she was prepubescent; and the young man she married I taught him how to play pickle ball of which he became quite good at. Also on a sour note the rain has not stopped except for brief hour periods or so in duration since Friday. I'm beginning to think we are somewhere on the west coast around Seattle or Portland during the rainy season.
Well the day started much the usual for me with a before 6 roll out, of course I was awake long before that as I lay there thinking about all that needed to be accomplished before company arrives in July and if we will get it done and mulling over the many facets of change Nancy is planning for the cabin. Wow does she ever have a long bucket list of honey do's many of which require some major modifications and some beyond my capacity to fulfill; but I enjoy the challenge and of course the physical efforts. This wet weather is keeping us from hiking to the top for additional exercise but the views would be about looking at your hand in front of your face as the fog and clouds have the distant views shut down.
Neighbor Gerald came by for a visit and we chatted and caught up as well as he lent me a saw I was desperately needing to make the demolition in the upstairs bathroom easier. I left this particular saw at home despite setting it aside in my mind and in the shed, oh well. He is in for just a couple days from Blacksburg, Va. where he and his new wife reside. She isn't much of a mountain gal but does come down occasionally for a visit and we really like her a lot. He still keeps his place below us and looks out for my place when he is here, plus he is a hunter and helps to keep the deer population from exploding with his hunts while we are gone.
I did my usual morning routines while Nancy slept soundly that always start with the cup of hot green tea on this damp cool morning. We haven't needed any a/c and at times Nancy has donned a sweat shirt. I think the temps are perfect for working despite the high humidity with all the wetness. I'm hoping the garden plants do not rot before the sun comes out. I did manage in between rain showers to take them out of the pots and into the ground so the soil could drain; luckily the down slope helps with that as there is nothing flat here but the porches and inside the cabin. I'm expecting to see the dry weather gulch behind the cabin flowing with rain run off from the top of the mountain which happens when it rains for days and heavy down pours. The whole area is under flood watch for the creeks and rivers but when it reaches our place we had better have an Ark handy.
I worked until 4'ish upstairs in the bathroom and have it now really for the plumber/tile setters to make an estimate on the procuring of the tiles and plumbing supplies needed to complete the job of a specific modified shower only for the area. Hopefully that will go smoothly since I have everything including the oak hardwood flooring out of the room. We want to put vinyl plank flooring in place of the wood flooring and then extend that into the two bedrooms and hallway. We got ready to head out around 5 to the wedding venue which was moved from an outside wedding to this old school auditorium not too far from us. It was decorated to look like an old barn setting and was just idea for the couple hundred folks in attendance. It was like old school week for us as its been 7 months since we last saw many there. Lots of hugs, handshakes and welcome back home from lots of folks. We felt like celebrities with all the attention. The wedding was very informal and the dad of the bride who was our youth pastor for years at Cornerstone did the ceremony and he was a hoot. The couple have been dating for 9 years and both have their college degrees and great jobs.
The food was down home cooking and very tasty and the bride bakes these unbelievable decorated cakes for all occasions as a hobby and part time job and she made the wedding cake. Just beautiful and oh my so delicious. We did some dancing and when many saw us on the dance floor more of the seniors came forth and soon the place was rockin' with the older crowd; of course the youngsters were tearing the floor beforehand. It was a great event and many from different churches were represented. We saw about half of the crowd was from Cornerstone with many past and present attendees and a few who have switched churches since we were last here. We headed out a little after 9 for the cabin in a driving rain once again. The minor leak in the roof somehow stopped despite the heavy down pours. I suppose the caulking had dried out and once the rain caused it to swell the leak stopped but I'm going to replace a couple sections of the tin roof that was damaged years ago from the ice storm.
Well its Sunday Morning and I'm missing my crew from BridgePoint with the load in crew that meets around 5:30 at the college. We will be pew/chair sitters for the next 5 months but I was awake at 5'ish to head out on my bike for the college for the weekly event. I love those volunteers and the camaraderie that exits within the group and of course we will miss All of our First Impressions Team. We will watch on line the early service before heading out around 9:30 for the 30 minute drive to Cornerstone, LATER
