Well Monday was another work day around the cabin with a hike thrown in for entertainment; at times that steep back trail doesn't seem like fun as its gets your cardio up and makes your legs ache but the walk across the top of the mountain is sheer beauty.
It was another warm one thus the a/c is such a blessing as for many years we had to go into the basement which stay's in the 60 to cool off on those hot muggy days. Our mini split units keep us very comfortable and we only use the one downstairs for now since we have no company. I started the day much the usual with a 6'ish roll out to my handful of Nutrilite vitamins and supplements washed down with a cup of hot green tea laced with turmeric while I post this ramble about the day before's activities. I then spent some quiet time with my Creator in humble thanksgiving and lifting several up by name for comfort, healing and even miracles for a couple who have such debilitating issues.
Nancy was still in the sack as she is a night owl and I'm in the horizontal position around 10'ish or a little after, so I headed out after this post to check on the gardens and to breathe that fresh morning air. It's so peaceful and gives me a chance to stand in the morning atmosphere and praise GOD out loud with the sunlight in the tree tops, fresh air and the birds singing all with the back drop of the heavenly blue sky. It just makes one feel so close to your Creator with nothing around but the creation.
The gardens are coming along and I'll soon be able to add some green to our salads with the collards, swiss chard and lettuces adding leaves daily. The cukes have tons of blooms but so far no nubbins have set and the onions are ready for the salad bowl as well. The slugs love this wet weather but I've only found a couple in the garden along with a cut worm which did destroy a couple collard seedlings. Thus far the rabbit, which is almost a pet seems to enjoy only the clover in the yard and has stayed away from the plants. I get within a foot or so before he/she takes off. The grands should have fun with it next week. Speaking of the grands they all will be here in Friday as Amy and family come in on Thursday until Tuesday and then Bobby and Family on Friday until the following Friday.
I made reservations for the Creeper Trail in Damascus, Va. for Sunday and then Bobby made reservations for the Zip line in Boone on the day the Ross Family leave for a quick visit to see Paw Paw in W.Va. before heading west to Kansas to visit Tyler Family. We did speak with Paw Paw last evening as well as Pat his now full time care giver which has become a full time job for her. She is saving his savings by keeping him in her home and at times I know it's a handful. He is in the stage of repeating everything and remembering only what he wants to which comes with old age. He is still mobile which helps and able to do most of his bodily functions but his mind at times is out there as well as is his hearing which is understandable at 92.
I fired up the riding mower after supper and gave the all of the yards a mowing which takes a couple hours but so much easier on me with this mower. I still remember hand pushing a mower which sometimes took all day especially on the steep parts which is just about all of the yards. I decided to burn some wood construction materials from the renovation on the bathroom and we sat out by the fire for nearly an hour speaking with youngest sister Dee who lives in beautiful Woodstock.
We made plans for us to stay with her the second weekend in August when we come for the family reunion and the Gravel Springs picnic that happens every year. We get up with so many family members and old friends as well as have a delicious country supper and even do a little flat foot dancing. Seems Josie the oldest of the girls and I have the dance floor mostly to ourselves before we coax a few others to get out and cut a rug. It's always a grand time sitting under the big oaks, visiting, eating and then listening to a real blue grass band that plays it all.
Well is was after 9 before we came in from outside and it was still light out so I hit the shower and then watched a little TV for a change as the highlights from Wimbledon was being shown. It wasn't much after 10 I decided to call it a day, LATER
Just a couple pics of the manicured yards around the cabin.
