Tuesday Morning

Well Monday and this whole past weekend found us enjoying such gastronomic delights with family and church friends. Monday morning saw us sleeping in until 6'ish despite Nancy and Dee sitting up talking until the wee hours of the morning. Mike and I gave up around 10'ish after a full day Sunday and hit the sack. My elbow had such a workout over the weekend which contributed to the ever expanding spare tire around my middle that I had to give it a rest; of course it started again on Monday morning with a fantastic breakfast before Mike and Dee headed out for Northern Virginia.

They brought with them from a local butcher shop the leanest package of bacon I've ever seen sold commercially. It was just beautiful and I know there are certain hogs that are specifically grown for this trait and the package must have weighed close to 3-4 pounds. Well I had 2 skillets of it frying outside on the grill and it was delicious with eggs, fresh sliced tomatoes, onions, mayo on toasted bakery bread, Yeow what a feed with a little orange juice and of course some bakery pastries to give the pallet a little sweetness; all of this to start the day.

They headed out around 10'ish so we got busy and put the cabin in order for the 3 o'clock crowd that was coming for a weinie roast. We ended up with 8 for that event as Mechelle and Caleb came around 5.  The Tracy's and Carlan's came around 3 and we started out by playing a challenging game of croquette. What made this most interesting was the decline on one part of the course and the incline on the other. At times our shots ended further away than when we first started or right back at you. Thankfully Marsha(Carlan) knew the rules as she had played the game from childhood. We had a fun time with Sam(Carlan) being the winner with myself and Patrick a close runner up. The gals were having difficulty with the ball rolling back down the hill more so than we but it was an obstacle to overcome for us all.

I had a rather subdued fire in the fire circle as the rain showers from the past several days kept the wood from really blazing away but we guys managed to roast the dogs for everyone and they were perfect. There is nothing like the taste of a hot dogs over an open fire when loaded with sauerkraut, slaw, onions and surrounded with awesome baked beans and tater salad. Yikes was that ever some good eatin'. We thought a couple times it was going to pour rain but the sunshine prevailed for the most part. The few clouds at times felt great as the humidity had crept back for the week end. We managed to stay relative comfortable in the shade and afterwards we guys headed up to the shaded backwoods yard for some corn toss. Well Caleb and I took on Patrick and Sam and at one time we leading 13-1 when the other team suddenly took a 19-17 lead with some great throws. We were in fear of losing our cockiness and suddenly we were eating humble pie when Caleb made a couple nice throws and we prevailed 21-19 victory. Wow that was close to allowing a couple newbies to be victorious. We had lots of laughs and good fun.

Sam and Marsha had to head out shortly thereafter and then so did Caleb and Mechelle as he had homework for school on Tuesday. Patrick and Kathryn stayed awhile and we played a game of 5 Crowns before giving the Botbyl's (Dan and Carol)a call to Seminole. We made plans for a get together at their house for when we visit the end of the month and the Tracy's head back from their 4 summer months stay here in the mountains. We will surely miss them as we have missed the Botbyl's this summer as well.

Well I tuned into the last college game of the weekend between Louisville and Miami and watched it to halftime then it was a hot shower for me and a few chapters with Sandra Brown in the horizontal position before lights out around 11, LATER     Nancy seemed to have forgotten to take pictures of the past couple days or forgot to download them!!
