Well Thursday will be a day we will remember for ages to come as the rain never ceased and its still pouring as I make this post with it coming down in sheets. It has rained for at least close to 48 hours and we now we own water front property as the dry gulch in the backwoods yards is flowing strong. Yikes and this wasn't even a part of Helene which should be upon us in the next hours or maybe thats what is upon us now. I doubt it has made it this far since she denigrated the west coast of Florida on its way towards the pan handle last evening.
Not much to share except I started the morning with my usual routines after sleeping in for a change until after 7 and then it was my quiet time to honor my lord, Jesus, give thanks for another day and then to lift up several by name for comfort and healing, all are holding with this post. I did get in my stretches on the back porch but never left the upstairs at all, except to head down to the basement a couple of times to do some laundry and turn the dehumidifier on. The pouring rain was unbelievable and at times it sounded like there was hail on the tin roof. We did lose power for a couple hours in the early evening, thankfully we could manage with what sunlight was available. We got out candles and small flashlights and then moved our card game to the small table by the window and managed to play for an hour or so. Steve and Sheri were with us from the early afternoon until 9'ish when they headed down the driveway which was flowing like a river. They made it safely to their "man cave" as she calls it and they had power which wa a blessings.
Nancy had made a huge pot of tortilla soup and it was cooked and cooling on the stove when the lights went out so we were able to east it while it was still hot. After eating we were in touch with several family members and friends in Florida as well as the flooding here in the mountains with trees down already and of course by late evening the weather was getting worst by the hour in both places. The Nymark's son was seeing the bay waters slowly creep up into their property and eventually rose to a couple feet inside their 2 story house. Our neighborhood was with out power but I think we were high enough to avoid the surge and the high water but no info on the big oak in the backyard of our house. The last report before dark was its was still standing but lots of limbs were broken off.
Our local small steam down by the Heglar's was over flowing and they were worried it might take off their deck and in the process take off the side of their cabin as the stream flows under their deck. Anyhow I'm sure daylight will show us what needs to be done about the damage to our family and friends properties both here in the mountains and in Florida. The rain is so strong here agin this morning with it now being blown sideway again the cabin windows.
We did play some hand, knee and foot cards but it wasn't very much fun knowing family and friends as well as our selves were being inundated by the storm and then again with Helene coming our way. The gals were once again winning as they made up for their earlier losses. We were all stressed about what was happening to our family members, so we broke up earlier than usual. We got word that our son Bobby made it to Atlanta from Dallas but his connecting flight into Tampa was cancelled as the airport was closed; so his family was close to Katie's family in the same neighbor in Brandon. Daughter Amy and family live just a few doors from Steve and Sheri's house in Seminole and last we heard they were having their pastor and family spend the night as they had no power. Thankfully we knew of know persons being injured, during the storm, LATER
Updates will be provided in tomorrow post. Stay Safe everyone and hopefully dry.
