Well Tuesday found us running some errands in Sparta, Nancy getting her hair colored and cut and me spending an hour at the library during that time. We picked up her scripts from Walgreen's then headed back to the cabin. It finally actually felt like a summer day for change while in town as the temps were in the middle 80's. It was around 4'ish by the time we got back to the cabin and chilled before starting some supper.
The morning for me started with a nearly 7 o'clock roll out. I did my usual morning routines with a few quiet moments and then the posting of this ramble before having soft boiled eggs with grits and a jalapeno pepper chopped up with a tomato, wow was that ever tasty. I headed outside to piddle around in the gardens then I planted my garlic bulbs for next year and hand watered most all of the remaining plants. I gathered another 1/2 dozen cucumbers and a dozen small tomato's that continue to fall off the vine. This is a common characteristic of this tomato plant as that occurs both here and in Florida. I'm still getting a few green peppers and I harvested a dozen or more jalapenos.
We kept busy until lunch time and then got ready for our trip to Sparta. We did get in a late evening hike to the top of the mountain and saw Ray Todd on his golf cart along with his 4 dogs. He was taking them out for a run. It was nearly dark by the time we got back down to the cabin. We learned about the death of the largest business man in the county who had a dairy, evergreens and tree farms with cabbage, pumpkins and corn fields all over this county and in several of the other surrounding counties and states as well. He was a year younger than myself and apparently died in his sleep. Ray told us the day before he had wrecked his pickup truck striking a tree. He was taken to the hospital for a checkup but was released for home and something must have been internally wrong as to cause his death while sleeping. He will be missed in this area as he employed hundreds of folks in his operations.
Well we fixed the bird egg beans I picked and shelled yesterday with some bacon for supper along with a small mess of 1/2 runners and they were superb. The dried beans have such a great flavor and texture and of course the fried bacon we sparked it with was awesome as well. We will be away from this key board for about 4 days as we travel to Va. this morning for my niece's wedding on Friday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va. We will come back on Saturday then leave again on Monday for Florida, so keep us in your thoughts and prayers for safe travel, LATER
