Well September left us with awesome weather for a change and its supposed be nice for this week end as well. October means we have just one full month and a couple days left before packing up and heading south for the winter. It's been a busy week here on the mountain and yesterday was one of the reason we are here as much as possible through the summer months.
I started the day out much the usual except for an early morning rise around 5'ish for a change. Nancy's snoring was just unbelievable and yet when I go into the room to crab something before my hike she awakens an ask what was I doing. Her snoring was interrupting my posting of my blog it was that loud, oh well. I did my routines and quiet times before heading out on my early morning hike. The dew is so heavy now in the mornings and there was even some ground fog for a change. It got up into the upper 70's with bright blue skies and sunshine for the day. I did have my morning talk with GOD on my hike as well during my quiet time which was about GOD speaking to Saul on the road to Damascus when he(Paul) was confronted with an audible voice from HIM. I thought about that as I voiced my concerns for America and wondered what I would do if confronted as Paul was, oh well.
I had my apple for breakfast plus my vitamins and supplements but did have a substantial lunch as we finished off the leftover turkey on a sandwich and some homemade salsa. After eating I took the golf cart to the mailbox and stopped off at my dirt quarry for one last load of dirt for this summer. I filled in some low places in the back yard and added some dirt to my garden beds then I decided to burn the last brush pile in the gully. I'm surprised it burned so easily as its been under high grasses and most of the brush was damp, so I added some limbs and twigs from the woods and got it going. It sure looks a lot cleaner in the gully now that I've working in that area of the backwoods yard. I did set out 20 some lettuce seedlings into the garden bed where the tomato plants had been. I worked outside until after lunch then settled on the porch and read for the next couple hours and finished an historical novel on WWII and the dropping of the bombs that brought Japan to surrender. What a read and it was based on facts from those who lived to tell about it in their memoirs. All are gone now but their legacy lives on and Shaara tells it so vividly in his book.
Well we took off on an afternoon hike to the top of the mountain. We could chatter all afternoon as two workers were on top of the several hundred foot towers on top of the mountain. They were like in our back yard as their voices carried down the mountain. They were on the towers until dark or when I closed up the cabin for the evening after a walk around outside after supper. I tuned into the Rays game and they lost again to the Astros 3-2 in Houston but with the win on Wednesday they now have home field advantage through the playoffs, LATER
More color each day as Fall presents itself with the leaf change. Thats me in the last pic and maybe you can get an idea of the steepness of the backwoods trait from the cabin through our property we take on our daily hikes.
