Thursday Morning

Well Wednesday was a mixture of fun, work, shopping and our first total hike all the way to the top of the mountain. We even had lunch out at El Torito in Galax before shopping at Lowes and Wal-Mart. I did some bass fishing early in the morning but the winds were just too high to fish for trout in the center of the lake but we did hook some bucket mouth bass and I cleaned two for our supper on Thursday.

The morning started with me actually not awakening until close to 6 which is great as I'm usually laying there waiting for day break. It was in the low 50's outside and the cabin was chilly as the winds continued to blow. Nothing in the gale level but still quite strong. I called my fishing buddy and he said lets go anyhow as he was geared up for the adventure. His boat was very steady and the electric motor did get us into one of the protected coves where we had some great strikes and some big fish and of course I had a very big one up to the boat before it managed to flip off, but he managed to get two keepers of a couple pounds each into the boat. We gave it a good two hours and the setting was awesome nestled in the mountains while the wind never let up until late evening.

I did get in my quiet time before leaving the cabin around 7:30 and did post the ramble as well. I had dug some fishing worms but I mainly used artificial worms for the bass as the real worms are best used for trout. After getting back to the cabin around 10'ish we got ready to head out for Gala, Va. as we needed some items for the cabin and as well stock up for the Tracy's who are coming next week for a few days. We ate a delicious lunch of Mexican cuisine in Galax and that meal held us the rest of the day and evening except for a huge bowl of popcorn around 7'ish. We picked up another beautiful blue flowering plant at Wal-Mart as well as some other goodies.

Well it was going 4'ish when we got back on the hill so I went into hand watering the seedling which were dried out from the wind as well as the sun. I watered the new lettuce seedlings I had sowed into the garden and they are becoming quite evident form the cabin windows. Lettuce is grown so different here as to the way I grow it in Florida as its sowed in a small patch as compared to the individual plants. Either way we eat a ton of salads and I've seldom had good luck here in this clay packed soil. We took a hike up the steep back trail around 5:30 and then up the final golf cart grade trail to the top. The views were awesome from the top and we could see the sun shining off of the high rise buildings in downtown Winston-Salem approx. 70 miles away. Pilot Mountain was a stand out in the views as we looked down and beyond of mountain. The vistas was exceptional as the winds had cleared out the haze.

We stopped and chatted with the Browning for a spell and the conversation always turns to eating, cooking or restaurants we've visited. We so enjoy our visits with them and Zeke their friendly dog who is going grey around the edges. He used to follow us when we left but has now taken to staying at his masters feet. Jetta blessed us with some volunteer tomato plants and I promised her some kale seedlings when they get big enough to transplant. We came back down the trail and the knees did O.K. We each wore our braces which helped especially coming down the steep trail. We planted the blue flower and then I decided since the wind had died down to burn trash, sticks and old wood from the fireside bench. The evening was quickly turning cool and we soon closed up the cabin as we snuggled in its warm on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate. It wasn't long after O'Reilly it was hot shower time and by 10'ish I was reading until lights out, LATER
