The weather has been just perfect; bright sunshine, blue skies, no humidity and a gentle breeze after a cool start of temps in the low 50's and a high somewhere around 75, yeow this is gorgeous weather and while we had so much rain earlier we could almost use a nice shower as I'm now hand watering what's left of the gardens.
I started the day around 7 AM with the posting of this ramble, a few quiet moments and then a breakfast of Cheerios and fruit before heading down to neighbor Gerald's place. Another neighbor George and myself were assisting Gerald with installing the tin roof for his carport he built last week. The job was relatively easy as George and I handed up the material to be fastened down with screws. That was a tough job for Gerald who was riding the ridge cap and the steep decline on the far side of the roof made for using lots of precaution. That took us a couple hours and afterwards I headed out with the weed whacker.
We took off on our daily hike to the top of the mountain and the views were excellent today with the building in downtown Winston-Salem visible at 70 miles away. We visited with Joe, Jetta and Zeke for a few before heading on down the trails for a lunch of leftover spaghetti. After eating I headed out to finish the weed whacking before firing up the riding lawn mower. I did all of the yards and it was nearly 4 PM before I finished. Nancy had invited our "mountain mom" Helen and her brother Joe for a supper of; roasted pork and sauerkraut along with smashed taters, hot dogs, Kielbasa, oven rolls and ginger snap cookies for dessert. I could smell that cooking as the aroma drifted outside all afternoon.
After a sumptuous supper and clean up we headed out after they left for home to the mailbox and saw 6 deer along the roadway. We headed back to piddle around in the yard until nearly dark. I hand watered the gardens by carrying the water down the hill as my rain barrel was now empty. We actually could use a shower as the sun and wind has finally dried things out.
I tuned into the football game and the Broncos whipped the Super Bowl Champs as I headed for the sack in the 3rd quarter. Today we are heading down off the mountain for the horse sale in Mt. Airy this evening after a stop in Galax for a few goodies, LATER..Here are Nancy's ginger snaps which are awesome.
