Well Friday turned out to be another gorgeous day with warmer temps than normal and lots of sunshine and blue skies. We had an overnight rain on Thursday which dropped another quarter inch so the ground was soaked when I headed out to walk the perimeter and to check on the gardens. The deer stayed away from the upper garden but did walk through the rest of the yards and last evening before dark when we were eating supper both mom and baby deer showed them selves in the backwoods yard. That was a first for this summer in broad daylight.
I had started the day with my usual before 6'ish rollout to my routines that begin with some quiet time to honor my lord, Jesus, give thanks for another day and to lift up several by name for comfort and healing. All seem to be holding. Nancy once again made a mountain breakfast of eggs, grits, bacon and toast and I added a jalapeno pepper and a ripe tomato with some home made apple butter to my toast. That held me until supper time except for a banana and some peanut butter around 2'ish. We were eating a little later than usual some time around 6:30 as we were having Steve and Sheri for supper as they just got back to their place around 4'ish from Florida after an over night stop near Gatlinburg where Sheri's mom now resides.
I did some small chores around the cabin and yards after my morning stretches and hike. The ropes I crossed over the upper garden patch worked which kept the deer from tearing the patch as well as eating their fill. I'm still getting a few tomato's but they have just about shut down for this season especially the plants in the upper garden. The garden towards the backwoods still have several green ones but since that garden isn't protected the deer still munch on the leaves over night. I did rake a couple garbage cans of dried pine needles and mulched the blue berry bushes and trimmed them up for next season. They love acid conditions and pine needles are abundant here in the backwoods area.
After lunch I sat on the deck and back porch reading a new read by Greg Iles titled the DEVILS PUNCHBOWL. Its a real page turner and full of mystery and a thriller. I got almost half way through the read waiting on the Nymark's for supper. Nancy had made zucchini boats and pasta with a fresh garden salad and it was delicious and we have another whole pan for leftovers. After the cleanup which I washed and Steve dried we settled into a game of hand, knee and foot and the guys won for a change after a hard fought match by the gals. We were far enough ahead on the 4th round the gals never tallied the final score as we piled on, oh well. It was close to 10 when we finished and after they left to head down to their place I hit the shower and then read for another half hour winding down from the first win of the summer before turning off the lights, LATER
