Friday Morning

Well this has been a busy week and Thursday was no exception as we get ready for company next week. Nancy was doing her thing inside the house as well as washing all of the bed clothes and her typical house cleaning. I was outside for most of the day until a delivery truck dropped our new TV stand off and then we spent the next three hours assembling , disassembling and finally reassembling this cabinet. At times I wanted to strangle who ever drew up these plans and pictures of putting this thing together, oh well!!

The day started with me actually sleeping in until about 6:15 which is a 30 minute or so additional horizontal lab time. I awakened to the cabin being very cold and much colder outside with temps down into the high 40's , WOW was it ever brisk. I quickly had a hot cup of my turmeric drink after closing the windows and donning a long sleeve shirt. After my quiet times to honor my Creator and lift up those I know and love I posted this ramble before heading out to check on the gardens for deer and slug damage. Since the rains have stopped for now and the ground has really dried out I don't see much of the slimy slugs and so far NO deer damage.

Nancy awakened about 7'ish and we decided on some buttermilk biscuits with sausage patties and fried egg for breakfast much like Mickey D's type. I of course had some Crystal hot sauce to adorn mine and wake up the taste buds. I ventured out to fire up the riding mower and gave the yards a 2-3 hour work over. Nancy had clothes on the line and what a fine day it was for drying outside. There is something down home about clothes on an outside line plus the smell is so fresh and clean. I headed upstairs to change out an electrical switch which had gone bad. That was very unusual I thought but the new switch fixed the problem and now we once more have light in one of the closets.

After a lunch of salad I headed down under the porch to move some kale and lettuce seedlings into 9 packs and hopefully into the garden as they grow larger. I also planted the Walla Walla sweet onion seedlings into the back garden where I now have two rows of bush beans breaking ground as well as radishes up and a couple of tomato plants and now beets breaking through as well. Most of the onion seedlings had new roots and green on the top so I feel confident they will eventually make nice bulbs which are so sweet and delicious. I learned the Texas onions grow best in the south(Florida) and Walla's grown best here in the Carolina's. I wonder where that idea came from?

Neighbor Gerald came down from Blacksburg, Va. for the day so I greeted him and returned his air compressor which he left out for me. Usually I need to pump up the tires on the mower and golf cart each year but this year the tires were up, what's with that? He was just in for the day and night then is heading back to where he now makes his home with his new bride of just a year. We had a nice chat and I look after his place when we are here in the summer and he checks on our place when he is down from time to time over the winter months, plus he hunts our property as well in the Fall.

Well we started on that heavy 78 pound cardboard box around 3' ish on the front porch. It was a in several pieces packed in styrofoam with directions both in English and French. It was manufactured in Canada and the first thing it said Do Not Ship this item back. If you need a replacement part that is damaged they would send it via UPS. Well that really gave us some confidence so we used the carton to buffer between the porch and the items. I must say it was damage and blemish free. The directions had one part turned around which made us take it apart twice and finally we figured out the right way to assemble the steps 3 and 4 . Everything is hidden with cams and screws that lock the sides and top together in a nice tight strong fit. We each were really stumped about one step that had us taking it apart twice before finally getting it right on our directions, oh well!! We love the piece and while it is the only thing modern and not made by me it does fit right in with the new flat screen TV. It was going on 7'ish when we finally finished and brought it into the house.

Well it was after our normal suppertime so I shucked some corn on the cob and then used my side burner on the grille for the first time to fry up 4 nice fresh bass fillets which were awesome in taste, yeow! I could eat like this everyday and would probably be healthier by doing so and maybe lose some of this spare tire. After the clean up I headed out to gather up the packing materials and then started a fire in the fire pit burning this trash as well until nearly dark. I did hand water some of the new seedlings as one of my egg plants was really drooped. We settled into the Fox News channel and caught the last few minutes of the O'Reilly Factor. It wasn't long into the next program that I hit the shower which felt great and so relaxing so I gathered up my book by John Irving and retired to the bedroom and read until nearly 10 o'clock, LATER
