Monday Morning

Well I must say Sunday was rather unusual as we missed our gathering for corporate worship at Cornerstone. We decided to spend time with our weekend guests and of course plans change it seems every hour or so due to the weather, road conditions and each others whims especially when there are 6 millennials staying with you.

The day started out with a sleep in until nearly 7 o'clock after the Carlson wedding and reception down near Winston which is about an hour or so traveling time. It was close to midnight when we finally got in and we were bushed from all of the day's activities and the couple hours of dancing until nearly 10:30.  It felt good to hit the sack and for once my internal alarm stayed silent past 5:45 in the morning. The millennials decided to stay in the local area after a delicious breakfast of Bobby's rendition of pancakes from scratch with bacon and eggs. After the cleanup they got ready for the trip down to Stone Mountain Park( not to be confused with the one in Georgia) which is just off the top of the mountain near us.

We decided since Kathryn was unable to hike due to an ankle sprain to forgo the adventure with them and do something with our older gang which eventually winded up taking in a 1 PM movie in Galax. We stopped at Mickey D's for a lite lunch before heading over to the theater to watch San Andreas. Well the price of a movie here is very reasonable as well is the popcorn and drinks at about half or less than what it costs elsewhere. I wasn't impressed with the story line but the special effects were the best I've ever seen, yikes it's was amazing to see whole areas of California devastated by an earthquake. I basically snoozed through parts but was impressed with some of the action.

We made a stop after quick stop at Wal-Mart to introduce our friends to our "mountain mom" Helen who just happened to share a pew in the early service at First Methodist with Patrick who visited there this morning. What a coincidence that turned out to be. We visited just a short while before heading home to find all of the "millennials" sacked out after the whupping they took from the hike across stone mountain.  Seems they crossed the dome of the rock coming and going on their hike back to the waterfalls.

It was after 5 when we got back to the cabin so it was time for some vino and corn toss on the deck. We had several raucous games while we grilled "special turkey burgers" a creation by son Bobby, roasted corn in the shuck, parsley taters and salad and Kathryn made a delicious cheesecake with blueberry topping for dessert. Several of the "millennials" had never fired a pistol or shotgun so I gave them the opportunity to do both. Everyone who wanted to shoot did so and a few wanted nothing to do with guns so they stayed in the cabin. Wow what a feed that was and then we settled out by the campfire for an hour or so after our "shooting activity" before heading in to play a game of Balderdash. What a hoot that game is and once again Nancy seems to have the most creative imagination for concocting false definitions. It was after 10 or so when we all needed to shower and somewhat get ready for their 5:15 wake up for the 2 hour trip to the airport in Greensboro for their return flight back to St.Pete airport. Luckily we have three bathrooms counting the one in the basement which has a shower as well. We went through 50 gallons of hot water in no time.

Well the gang left at 5:45 AM in the dark and wet conditions as the rain pounded the tin roof overnight. While several were wrapped at times in blankets with the temps in the 50's we did see some nice week end weather conditions that was nothing like the 90's we left in Florida over a week ago. It was a fun filled long weekend and we got to know and show the cabin to some first timers and to a couple who haven't been here in several years. I think it's been nearly 14 years since Danielle had been here with Amy when they were just teenagers and nearly 8 years since the Perry's were here with their son, Phoenix. Neal and Katie had never been here so it was exciting to introduce them to our cabin in the woods, LATER
