Saturday Morning

Well Friday didn't find us leaving the cabin except for a hike to the top of the mountain just before noon. It was rather nippy to start the day with temps in the low 50's and occasionally clouds that temporary blocked the sun which dropped the temps even more during the afternoon. There is definitely a touch of Fall in the air despite this still being the month of August.

I started the day with my usual 6'ish roll out and morning routines. After a hot cup of green tea I took a few quiet minutes to connect with my Creator and then posted this ramble. I finished the last piece of crumb cake with butter on top for my breakfast and then I headed outside to piddle around. I fired up the weed whacker and mowed down some weeds below the gardens and trimmed up the yards. The grass has really slowed down growing due to this cold snap so I will probably mow it once more before we leave for Florida on Labor Day. I did pick another handful of the small tomatoes and a couple more cucumbers. The cukes have been amazing this year as has the Bell peppers. I sowed more lettuce seeds but they haven't broke through the ground yet.

The grass seeds I sowed on the area where I dug out the stump is up and showing some good color. The peas are about gone as the vines have turned brown with an occasional green sprig with some blooms and small pods. They are a cooler weather plant so I'm hoping with daily watering they will start producing again. It doesn't look as if the okra is going to make as it loves hot weather and we barely reach the 70's during the day. I must say the Zinnias are doing great and have such beautiful colors. The Morning Glory vines have turned light yellow and we have had no blooms now for several days; they were magnificent in color for the first year and so abundant at times.

We took our hike after Nancy hung some laundry outside on the clothesline. We stopped and chatted with Ann and Sandy Cline briefly as they were getting ready to leave for a doctor's appointment in Elkin. I'm surprised they drive all this way up to the mountains from their home about an hour and half away. We headed on across the top and visited with the Browning's for a spell while sitting on their front porch. We so enjoy our almost daily visit with them as we hike on our way back down the mountain. Zeke actually followed us for a short distance as he is starting to show his age and has lost his puppy play.

We came back and had a salad for lunch then settled into reading on the deck. The deck area was out of the wind and the warmth from the sun felt good. The air was so dry which made for a chill in the air as well. We read until nearly 6'ish when we decided to finish the leftovers from the supper the night before and my oh my were they still delicious once again. We seldom have stuffed peppers in a red sauce and when we do its delightful and so tasty. After the cleanup which wasn't much as we microwaved our plates we took off on the golf cart out to the mailbox in hope we could scare up some wildlife for pictures but they were all hiding. We then took the back road to the top of the mountain for pictures with the sunset but that setting was so hazy it wasn't a good photo op as well. So we came back to the cabin and tuned into the Fox News Channel until the pre-season football came on.

Well around 10'ish it was a hot shower for me and when that occurs the sandman awakens and it wasn't long I was in the horizontal lab position, LATER
