Well never have I seen so much rain, wind and stormy conditions except for hurricanes. This has been one major front that has kept the mountains socked in for days with no sunshine, down pours and gusts of wind that would knock you off your feet. There was a lull yesterday for about 6 hours where the conditions allowed me to piddle around outside but once again after dark we were slammed until after midnight.
Tuesday found us sleeping in until 7'ish as the rain pounded on the roof with the wind at times gusting into the 40's. Finally about mid-morning it quieted down after a mountain breakfast of bacon and eggs in a tortilla wrap with tomato's and hot peppers for me and some Chrystal hot sauce to liven it up as well. I fried the bacon outside on the grill and the wind kept blowing out the flame on the burner it was that strong. That breakfast held me until suppertime with just a handful of cashews with a glass of red vino about 5'ish. We finished the tortilla soup for supper which was awesome with some corn chips in the mix.
I did manage to rake pine needles from the yards and load up my blueberry bushes as well as raked leaves to fill in the lower garden with them. I want to till that area before heading south for the winter and plant some old taters that have sprouted. I cleaned up the work area below the back porch where I do all of my potting and plant restorations. We are heading to Galax today(Wed.) for some last minute shopping as we await our company's arrival tomorrow for what may be a week or so. There is a special gourmet dinner on Saturday night at the Chilly Waters Farm with several courses and the wine is included for the specific course so we have 8 in our party attending which usually takes about 3 hours to complete. The event is by reservation only. The last one we attended was a dining experience as we had no idea what was being served. We made some new friends from that occasion as well.
Well the Kansas City Royals are about to sweep the Orioles in the division playoffs as they now lead 3-0 in games and the Giants beat the Cardinals in game 3 to lead 2-1 in their series. We stayed up and watched the games and then read until the wee hours as the rain pounded so hard on the tin roof at times we thought it was hail, yikes what a front that was and we are tickled it wasn't 30 degrees colder or that could have been a major snow storm. It is supposed to cool off here with temps down into the low 40's or maybe even some 30's as our Florida family is looking forward to cooler temps, LATER
