Well I would never have believe it could reach 71* on the back porch on this date in mid October but yesterday we saw bright sunshine, blue skies and this temperature. Today Tuesday is supposed to be even warmer before a cold front which will bring some rain and much cooler temps but no freeze as of yet in the forecast. I worked outside most of the day. We got in a great late afternoon hike and settled down on the porch and deck in the sunshine to read while our supper baked in the oven for nearly an hour while tasting some fruit of the vine.
The day started with my usual 6'ish roll out and then my morning routines of a few quiet moments to give thanks and to honor my Creator as well as lift up several folks who are in my thoughts and on my heart for some healing. Many thanks to all who lifted up our dear friend Kay who was hemorrhaging from a recent colon procedure. She is back home and doing well after giving all of us a scare. Paw Paw is still recovering but it's going to be awhile before he regains his strength from the infection which probably would have killed him had he not fallen and was admitted to the hospital. He is still on an antibiotic drip every four fours so he needs lots of prayers for recovery. Tyler's mom Cindy had a knee operation out in Kansas yesterday and needs prayers for healing and a speedy recovery as well and Eddie our paraplegic is daily in need of prayers for healing and quality of life.
After a breakfast of soft boiled eggs, a fresh garden tomato, jalapeno pepper and grits I headed outside to start the work day. I fired up the weed whacker and did the property and the driveway which kept me busy for an hour or so. Afterwards despite the heavy dew I fired up the riding lawn mower and did all the yards except the backwoods yard which showed little or no growth since last mowing. I should lime that area before we leave next month as the moss has once again reared its ugly head. The area just doesn't get enough sunshine due to all the trees despite me taking out a dozen or more over the past couple of years, oh well at least it has the "park"look. I kept busy right up to lunch time when we settled into a salad.
Nancy was busy in the house as she waxed the floors, cleaned the house and made the beds upstairs. Her cousin and husband are coming for the first time ever to the mountains and will be staying with us for a couple of days. The weather is supposed to change the day they get here with rain and much colder temps but until then we are supposed to be in the low 70's. We got in a nice hike in the afternoon and saw no one on top of the mountain. We did notice how almost over night there is so much more color in the trees. It's starting to look like fall weather despite the mild temps. I hand watered what's left of the gardens and noticed more blooms on the tomato plants that weren't touched by the lite frost while we were in Virginia last week. The beets are sending up new leaves which are very tasty in a salad and the deer have the same taste as they have eaten down the tops a couple times. The jalapeno peppers are producing as are the bell peppers. I've been giving them an epson salt spray about every other week and its working.
We had Marie Callendar chicken pot pie for supper and they are more than worth the price. Very delicious and we licked our plates clean. After the clean up we settled into the Fox Cable News and then I watched the MLB playoff game and now the Indians hold a 3 game to none lead over the Blue Jays. The Cubs play again tonight and we are pulling for them over the Dodgers as their manager, Don Maddon once led our Ray's Club to several playoff wins. The Cubs have a terrible record over the years but may have a chance to go to the big dance(world series) and it looks like they will play the Indians unless something magically happens with the Canadians. It wasn't long after 10'ish and a hot shower I was ready for some horizontal lab, LATER
