Thursday Morning

Well once more it was a foggy, misty, rainy wet day that eventually ended around 5'ish and we actually saw a few streaks of sunshine. We are a little mildewed and moldy from all of this rain the past several days and the ground is literally soaked and spongy. We spent the day around the cabin and I decided to place a large piece of visqueen across the deck to act as a roof so I could do some woodworking down under with my power tools. Well that worked perfectly and I stayed dry while the rain fell around me.

We slept in until 7'ish and then after my quiet time and the posting of this ramble I fried up a couple cackleberries and along with a fresh garden tomato and Serano pepper I had a delicious breakfast that held me until about 5 PM. I did eat a small bag of trail mix about 1 PM. We never got to do our daily hike as it rained all day long and around 4 'ish Joe and Helen came for supper. Nancy worked upstairs on making the Zucchini pie for supper and then a pumpkin pie for dessert. I headed down into the basement to first give my century old swing a second coat of paint and then I moved my table saw outside under the deck.

I wanted to reinforce the basement stairs as they were a little wobbly. It seems they were never finished so I wanted to close the open steps and help shore them up. I needed to saw and sand 12 boards and then paint them. After that project was complete I've been wanting to build a more sturdy stand for by anvil that was my great-great grandfathers. He used this anvil in the early 1800's as he did some farrier work before and during the Civil War. This anvil probably weighs over a hundred pounds and has and Eagle stamped into the side of it when it was made. I know it's a collectors item but not one you can easily carry around with you and besides I occasionally use it. I wanted to honor my grandfathers memory although I never knew or met any of them except my for great grandfather Mahlon Triplett who was in his 90's when he passed.

It was going on 4 when I finished downstairs and our supper guest usually arrive on time around 4'ish so I got ready for them. We had a sumptuous meal and one that is as good leftover as it is when first prepared. Zucchini pie has a unique taste of ground meat, onions, peppers, fresh tomatoes, pie crust, fresh Zucchini and lots of the herb Dill, Yeow that is some great eatin'. It does take some preparation time and the pan washing kept me busy as it's a last minute prep before baking for about 30 minutes before eating. We had a fresh salad to accompany as well. We sat around and talked about genealogy as Helen is into finding her long lost relatives and she has found some cousins in the past couple weeks from the Pilot Mountain area. Its been close to 75 years since she last saw these folks and what a reunion they had. I find her stories very interesting about her family and how they left these mountains for the big city of Winston-Salem to work at the age of 13 in the big tobacco company.

After they left we settled into the Fox News and it all about what our POTUS is going to say on national t.v. about his plan for containing and destroying this ISIS group of radical Islamist. Personally I think he is a big liar as he has proven that several times and is so full of himself that he will let America be destroyed before leaving office in two more years. He had no idea what to do and is much like the world years ago with appeasement that nearly allowed Hitler to militarily conquer the world. Those who want to destroy us no longer fear our might as he has down graded our military and now the Russians are once more rattling sabers only this time it's knowing they have nuclear capabilities and if the terrorists in the middle east get the bomb from Iran there will be blood shed not only in Israel but here in the home land. I certainly hope those who allowed this POTUS to be commander-in-chief step up and fight when it's brought here on our soil.

Today also marks the second anniversary of when he let 4 Americans perish in Benghazi and to this day has not given us the straight scoop on how and why he and his failed secretary of state, Clinton were so inept in their decision making and for their regard for these men. Well we will see what this day brings when men like Bill Ayers and the idiot professor from Colorado, Ward Churchill extoll this Potus, LATER
