Friday

Well it was once more a rather warm day here in sunny central Florida. The temps reached the low 80's once again with the humidity rather high so the a/c is still on. The nights cool off to the low 60's and maybe even into the high 50's as the gardens love that.

The morning started with a roll out around 6'ish for me while Nancy slept in. My internal alarm is functioning once again despite me trying to change it with a malfunctioning clock. I did my usual cup of hot green tea, a few quiet moments and then a lite breakfast after making this post before heading out to the rec on my bike for some 2 plus hours of pickle ball. We had 2 courts going with a couple players waiting to get on but for the most part it was continuous action and the wet shirts were in abundance with all advanced players.

I stopped off at the library for a couple new reads I had ordered and was thrilled to get David Roberts book FINDING EVERETT RUESS. This is a story much like the young man who headed to Alaska to live alone in the wilderness that Krakauer wrote about in the book INTO THE WILD. While Krakauer's book is set in the 90's this occurred in the 30's. Ruess is in his 20's and disappears with his burro and dog in the canyons of Utah and despite search parties, his body has never been recovered. This book is about his life as he left lots of correspondence and his disappearance. I'm excited to read this investigation.

I hand watered the gardens and actually harvested some romaine lettuce along with beet greens and arugula for our salad for supper. The newly transplanted lettuces seem to be doing good if only the pesky squirrels would quit digging in the garden and either covering them up with dirt or digging them out while looking for acorns. We have a hoard of the bushy tails and the big oaks are their mecca. Nancy had promised GG we would come for lunch and then put up her Christmas tree and decorations. I cleaned out some stuff from their garage that hadn't been touched in years for her while they hung decorations. One large trash can was filled in no time with all kinds of spray paint cans that had dried up. GG fixed one of our all time favorites for lunch that consisted of fried bacon, egg and onions in a skillet then put on toast with sliced dill pickles and tomato, yeow was that ever delicious.

Amy and Nancy transformed the house inside with all of the Christmas decorations while Sam entertained us with his antics. We headed out when Amy had to leave to pick up Ava from school. We made a stop at Aldi's for some goodies and ran into 2 old church members shopping there also. We were informed we were missed at SFBC as it's been over 5 years since we left to support Bobby and his church plant at Element. Amy and her family still attend SFBC as that was her church family since she was born. We never cut any ties it's just we went on the mission field with Element. Nancy still regularly attends the weekly Bible study on Fridays when we are here from the mountains.

I parboiled some spare ribs then grilled them with some Sonny's barbecue sauce for supper along with some steamed broccoli and a salad. Nancy had made a rather large batch of oatmeal cookies a couple days ago and we ate some for lunch and then finished the batch after supper. Those are so darn good you just can't eat one. Despite the healthy eating we inundated ourselves with those darn cookies and I'm glad they are finally gone. After the cleanup we settled into the Fox News channel until after O'Reilley. I headed for the shower and to watch a little Lightening hockey while reading until it was lights out for me. Nancy was into the Sound of Music, 3 hour show as I could hear the music in the back ground. I heard from neighbor Gerald in the mountains as he was able to retrieve the Sequence board and chips from the cabin for Eddie and Kimberly. That should give him something to look forward to while recuperating from further knee and leg surgery today, LATER
