Well Wednesday turned out to be a rather nice day that started with overcast skies and by mid-morning the sun was shining and despite it being damp it warmed up to the middle 60's. We were heading into to Galax, Va. for some shopping for our company(Nancy's family) which is to arrive sometime today(Thur.) after traveling from Florida on Wednesday. They decided due to GG's age they had better stop around half way as both Eric and Betsy have a tendency to fall asleep at the wheel and GG doesn't drive at all.
We got an early morning phone call from neighbor Carol in Seminole which set us back an hour from leaving out to shop; but we had no other plans for the day except to hike sometime in the afternoon. We loaded up at Wal-Mart then stopped and gassed up at $2.89 a gallon before one last stop at Horton's grocery for some meat and veggies. Nancy wanted to make a pot of vegetable soup today for lunches as the temperature here has dropped down into the 40's and may even see some 30's for lows at night for the rest of the week. At least we did see some sunshine which makes the cold seem all that much more tolerable. We did get another hard rain last night just before bedtime. The yards are covered with fallen leaves and we noticed that most of the beautiful color has been dulled by all the rain and wind of the past few days.
I think peak for the leaf color has come and gone overnight. We noticed several cars on the parkway as we travelled to Galax which is normal for this time of the year. We are hoping our niece Arianne, who lives in Miami will be able to make it for the weekend as she loves this area especially during the Fall. She has planned this get together with the family for a year. Her brother Austin is coming up from Charlotte with his wife and son as well, so we will have a cabin full for several days. Lots of good eatin' and games at night into the wee hours of the morning.
We are planning on the wine and dinner event at Chilly Waters Farm on Saturday evening with 8 of us as Becca's Shop is hosting the occasion. The last one was so good and so much fun we thought it would be a great fun time with the family. We hope to get in some hiking as well as maybe an outdoor game or two. This leaf color and cool temp's will be a big change for all the flatlanders as well. We managed to get in a hike to the top of the mountains and visited with our friends Sandy and Ann. We mentioned our friends from Florida looked at their place as it's for sale by owner and so they gave us a key to show off the place whenever we had people interested in their cabin. I learned they were selling the 3 plus acres, house and all the furnishings are included along with a golf cart. It's really got a great view of both sides of the mountains from either of the porches.
Well we settled into some burgers on the grill and fresh broccoli for supper and then I watched the Giants come from behind to win over the Cardinals in the fourth game of the playoffs. It's looking like the Royals and Giants in the World Series if they can win one more game in 'Frisco, LATER
