Tuesday Morning..Sept 1, 2015

Well August seemed to be just a flash in time as it quickly flew by and that I'm learning is one of the characteristics of aging, yikes!! Monday morning started with me in the sack until nearly 7 and I ask myself "what is with that" as my internal alarm has been ringing at 6 or just a minute or two on either side for the past couple or more years. We were staying around the cabin for most of the day except for a supper out at the Dalton Farm and our hike to the top of the mountain sometime after lunch. I did some honey-do's and then picked my first mess of October Beans in August or as we called them bird egg beans as they have the markings of a birds egg before cooking. The hulls are striped with red and that bleeds inside to the bean as they mature and what a delight to eat when cooked. They resemble pinto beans but so much more tasty in my opinion. I will include a picture of them at the end of this ramble.

I did my morning routines and after a few quiet moments with my Creator I finished the leftover apple pie for breakfast with a little whipped cream, yikes that was good!!! I must say I heard where Dr. Ben Carson took an atheist to task about his mocking Carson for being a believer in GOD and his retort to the atheist was the difference between the two of them was that he came from GOD and the atheist from a monkey. That quickly shut down this heckler. I would like to see a man of his caliber somewhere in the leadership of our country after the next election.

Well it was a little warmer to end the month with the morning temps in the middle 60's for a change from the low 50's. It did reach close to the 80 mark by late afternoon but the afternoon breeze kept it delightful and comfortable despite a little more humidity. We could use a little rain as I hand watered the remaining garden plants. I did harvest more cucumbers, kale, beet greens and Swiss chard for a huge salad we took with us to the Dalton's. I'm getting a dozen or more small tear drop tomatoes each day as well. The jalapeno peppers are loaded as well and I will take back some next week when we head back to Florida.

In 10 days from today we will be on an airplane heading west to Lake Tahoe, Nevada with our neighbors and old friends Dan and Carol to meet with Patrick and Kathryn. We will spend 11 days together before flying back on the 24th to Tampa. We hope to visit parts of California as well as the National Park at Yosemite of which none of us have ever seen or been to. The Carlan's gave us great info on the park as they have camped and hiked the park numerous times. I want to if time permits to visit Travis AFB where I was stationed from 66-73 which is just north of 'Frisco and Suisun City where I bar tended while going to college.

Well we had a delicious supper of chili( some call it chili beans), cast iron skillet corn bread along with a fresh salad and homemade bread pudding for dessert, yeow what a feed that was and afterwards we took a road trip over to Sam Brown Mountain where we checked out a farm where Gerald keeps some cows and horses. He moved some livestock during the day and weaned some calves from their momma's and were they ever bawling for their mother. What a beautiful area of Alleghany County. We saw lots of deer in the fields along the way and I was envisioning them sizzling on the grill. They were all well filled out and fat.

Well we got into a highly contested game of sequence and for once we the guys despite me having to play a "Harvey Hand" beat the socks off the gals 4-1. I wish I had a recorder to hear all of their excuses but Gerald and I played light out tonight and that's just what it was for the gals. Seems we had won the last several times against these gals, oh well!!  We headed home around 9:30 and then saw a glimpse of a huge red moon that was peering over a mountain in the distance while leaving their place. We never could find it again while traveling home as it was still to low behind the mountains.

Well I tuned into the pre-season football game for a few before hitting the shower and then some horizontal lab around 11'ish. LATER
