Yeow, did winter ever come howling in overnight with high winds and snow flurries throughout the evening. I got tickled at Nancy as she kept checking the outside lights and watching for real snow fall but all we got was wind snow or as we call it "flurries". It is in the 20's this morning with a wind chill somewhere in the teens, yikes it is time to head to Florida and that is just what our plans are for Friday.
Well Sunday was a cold morning with light winds after a gully washer rains from the night before. We listened to our BridgePoint online service while getting ready for Cornerstone at 10. The driveway was in decent shape after the hard rain as those cuts I made across the road helped tremendously with diverting the water run off to the side ditches. We did our usual routines before heading out around 9:30. It was say good bye to all our mountain church family and friends as we usually do that next Sunday at the annual homecoming meal and get together. Our dear friend Carroll is not doing well with his cancer and it has now spread to other organs. It will be a miracle if we see him next year or a healing from GOD ALMIGHTY if that should occur. He will be missed by this mountain community.
We met up with Mechelle at the Pines eatery for lunch then headed home somewhere around 1'ish. We took a back road and it was unbelievable the number of huge oaks and pines that were uprooted and blown down along the roads from the storm on Monday. It was never mentioned as a tornado but some folks heard the roaring train sound as it passed through and the devastation was consistent with a band of destruction during a tornado. The tops of huge trees were snapped like a pencil all along the parkway which was closed for several days after the storm. Several barns and dwellings were damaged but what we saw to huge trees was from some serious winds. The winds that came in with this Saturday storm and today are in the 40-50 mph range but a constant blow. At times the lights flickered last night but we never loss power like last weeks storm.
Well I piddled around outside briefly picking the last of the half runner beans and then covered some peppers and tomato seedlings in the garden with 5 gallon buckets. I don't think it will make much difference on saving them with this temp in the 20's this morning and the wind chill. I did bring some seedlings that were in pots into the basement that I will take back for my winter garden in Florida, oh well. The wind is still strong this morning and we can hear the towers on top of our mountain "singing" their song. Hopefully the wind will lay down today and we can get in a hike as it was too dangerous to hike through the woods plus it was just to cold. We gathered around the tube and I broke down and watched the hapless Bucs lose to the Panthers. We did watch most of the world series game that was a high scoring one. I headed into bed with the score 7-4 in favor of the Dodgers and read this morning where the Astros won 13-12, LATER
