Well Monday was a great day all around except for the success of uprooting the oak stumps I have been digging on for the past couple weeks. The weather cooperated all day long and by late evening we were having almost total sunshine with nice comfortable temps. Dan and I got in a little bass fishing at our "mountain moms" pond and we caught enough for a an appetizer before supper.
The morning started out with a sleep in for me until nearly 7 o'clock. After my usual routine(s) with such quietness in the cabin and everyone still in bed I ventured out to check on the gardens. No further deer damage but the Japanese Beetles are back and I put a hurtin' on the ones I found dining on my wineberry bushes. Around 8 I saw some movement in the cabin and we got the day started. The morning temps started around the low 60's and eventually reached the middle 70's by late evening when the sun decided stay out.
The gals headed off to town to pick up Kathryn and then they headed to Galax. Dan and I decided since we weren't into shopping with gals we would do some fishin' and we had several nice bass up to the bank but they somehow flopped off the hook and back into the water. We did manage to put 3 in the bucket and my were they ever tasty as we ate them before our pork roast with smashed taters, gravy, green beans and eventually later in the evening fresh peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream, Yeow what a feed.
I was hoping for some great success with the Tannerite Explosive material to somehow lift up those stubborn stumps but the stumps won. We did get some great explosions and had enormous fun shooting Caleb's 270 rifle to set off the material. Wow were there ever some great booms. We had a huge crowd on hand and a fun time was had by all except Piper, the puppy. She was in some ones arms the whole time. I got a nice camp fire going as the evening wore on as we sat around eating the dessert after everyone did photo ops with the rifle and everyone took turns blasting away into the back woods. We even did some 22 rifle shootin' as well and the difference in the 22 vs the 270 in sound was like a cap pistol vs a cannon. A fun time was had by all.
It was going on 10 PM when we finally called it a night outside. It wasn't long before I headed for the shower and then settled into the Rays vs the Yankees on T.V. The Rays blew a lead in the bottom of the 9th and the game went into extra innings but the bed was calling my name, LATER
