Saturday Morning

Well Friday was a guys day as we traveled over to Damascus, Virginia for the Creeper Trail while the gals did Old Salem in the Winston-Salem area. We decided at the last moment as Kathryn seemed to be better after a 24 hour bug which kept her in bed. The weather was perfect for everyone but that will change early next week with rain and snow showers, yikes. It was 75 yesterday on the way home from the trail ride.

The day started with a 7'ish roll out for me. I did my routines that started with a cup of hot green tea laced with clove honey and turmeric while I spent a few quiet moments with my Creator and then posted this ramble. Everyone started coming down the stairs around 8 as Nancy had the coffee pot on and I must say the smell is somewhat delicious. I fired up the grill and fried two pans of bacon while Nancy made flap jacks and eggs to order. The gals wanted to do Old Salem and we guys decided to do something different so them mention of the Creeper Trail arose and we decided that was for us. We made noon reservations as it already was 9'ish and its a good hour and half trip through the mountains.

I aired up our two bikes and loaded them in the truck and we took off shortly thereafter. The drive was uneventful but we were shocked at how busy the town was with folks for the trail. We learned this was one of their busiest months with "leaf peakers" as they called it. We actually got on the trail around 1'ish after the 30 minute ride to the top in a van. Well needless to say there were cold pockets where the temps dropped into the 40's and warm areas where it was in the high 60's but bright sunshine and blue skies. We dir the trip in less than two hours then headed over to the Old Mill Inn for a reunion lunch which is always delicious. Everyone was very cordial and friendly as we mentioned this was our 4th year eating with them. I brought half my sandwich home which tells you how big it was.

We came back via I-81 to Rural Retreat and then through Elk Creek where stopped and a showed Dan Sam and Marcia's old log cabin which they sold last year and moved to Nashville. We had some great times in that old place and we missed them especially on the Creeper Trail as they rode down the 17 mile trail several times. We got back to the cabin in about two plus hours ahead of the gals. We all were too full from our late lunches so we just snacked on popcorn and nutty buddies while playing Euchre. We guys finally redeemed our losses from the two nights before with wins and will have to play the deciding game when back in Florida.

We tuned into the Yanks vs Astros and the Astros finally tied up the series at 3-3. A deciding game will be played tonight. Our company has decided to leave for Florida after breakfast this morning and things will be quiet around here, LATER
