Thursday (last full day at the cabin for this year)

Well Wednesday was much warmer to start the day and despite some fog and mist to start out, it turned out to be beautiful with blue skies and lots of sunshine; I even managed to get another load of laundry out after lunch on the clothesline. We hung around the cabin for the most part except for a mid morning run over to the Dalton Farm for a homemade wreath made from Frazier Fir to take back to Florida.

We got our hike in for the day just before lunch and it was truly beautiful on top. We said goodbye to Norm and then Joe before heading back down for a lite lunch of leftovers. I picked a nice mess of collards from the upper garden as well as some lettuce, beet greens and arugula for a nice salad for supper. We were having Gerald for marinated chicken breasts, collards, black-eyed peas and salad and what a feast that turned out to be. Delicious.

The temps stayed up around 50 for the evening and it was nice out on the deck as I grilled. After dark the sky was filled with many stars and you could see the Milky Way it was that clear. During the night another front moved in with lite showers as we were awakened with rain dripping from the dormer onto the tin roof. The morning still had moderate temps in the high 40's. I'm sure glad I have everything from outside, inside the sheds, basement and under the porches while they were still dry. Now I just need to pack the truck in between the rain drops. I noticed the back woods yards are covered once again with fallen leaves but it doesn't look as if I will get them blown off due to the rain. Those leaves help with the growth of moss which seems to really love my yards this past year, oh well!!

We will be away from this keyboard for a day or so as we leave before daybreak tomorrow, Friday for the 700 mile trip back to sunny Florida. We will miss all of our mountain friends and of course the freedom to roam around on your land. There we are confined to a 100x60 foot lot in a sub-division where your neighbors are in spitting distance. The land is perfectly flat as well but with snow and cold temps here in the mountains the warm sunshine will feel good. I do have my gardens to tinker with plus pickle ball 5 days a week,

the library and most important our kids and grand kids. The trade off isn't so bad after all, actually it's the best of both worlds and we are very thankful, LATER  Here is a shot of the awesome smelling beautiful handmade wreath the Luffman's and Dalton's blessed us with. I think they sell them as well and ship to all over the country for the holidays.
