Well Thursday started out with fog, rain and overcast from the storm that headed north from Florida. We got over an inch and half of rain which was needed but by the late afternoon it was sunshine and blue skies and the temps weren't that bad with the upper 70's and maybe and 80 in the mix. The yards and gardens loved this ideal growing weather. We once again headed to Galax for some major shopping at several places for what Nancy has planned for feeding Bobby's family and I got my ear lowered for the first time since leaving Florida in May.
I started the day out much the usual with a before 6 roll out to my morning routines of a cup of hot green tea while I post this ramble and then some quiet time with my Creator and Lord lifting up several for comfort and healing all before posting my social media comments. All seem as well as can be expected. (Please keep Bobby and family in your thoughts and prayers for a safe uneventful trip as they are on the road as I'm making this post.) I did get in my non stop before breakfast hike to the top of the mountain before the rain started. It seemed just moments after getting back the rain let loose and we had some very heavy rain throughout the morning as we left for Galax around 10.
We have every possible space in both fridges and freezers fill to the brink as well as all cabinets full. There is no way we will ever use all of this food for their 4 day visit but we do have lots of company coming later this month. We got back around 1'ish and had a sandwich and then I put up the swimming pool for the boys and filled it with cold water. I'm hoping by placing it in the yard in full sun for several hours it will warm up enough for them to at least play in. I may have to get in and let my body heat help with warming it up for them as well. Anns and Gabe should be a big help in that area as well. Nancy was in the kitchen preparing what their favorite meal is upon arriving from Florida to the cabin; spaghetti and meat balls. She made 60 some meat balls and cooked the sauce which is always better the next day. Wow what a delicious smell that permeated the cabin and even outside.
We took a long slow hike to the top around 4:30 and it was so delightful with awesome clear views as the rain cleared out the fog, mist and haze. The buildings in Winston some 70 miles away were distinct against the skyline. We stopped and visited with Bertie Moore who is battling some health issues and Shirley was up on their golf carts with 2 lady friends enjoying the views. We didn't see the new landowners as they had closed on the cabin that Nancy had a hand in them getting. The Davis's along with Ann and Frank were at their new place. Neighbor Gerald came by a couple times for short visits on his 4 wheeler bringing me different tools to assist me with changing out the water filter cartridge.
We had a salad and a couple meatballs for our supper, delicious to say the least and then I piddled around in the gardens loosening the rain packed soil. I did harvest my first zucchini squash with a couple more ready in a day or so. Lots of small yellow squash on the vine as well and a couple cucumbers ready in a day or so as well. The garden loves this weather with moderate temps as do we. We close the cabin up at nights with the a/c on but leave it open during the day, LATER
The views look almost 3-D and Pilot Mountain is seen in the back ground.
