Well Monday was a busy day that saw us away from the cabin for the biggest part of the day and evening as first we were in Galax, Va. for shopping and then in the evening at Cornerstone for our respective Bible study classes; but first I started the day with my 5'ish rollout to start the day. I then did my usual routines that begin with some quiet times to honor my lord, Jesus, give thanks for another day and to lift up several by name for comfort and healing. All seem to be holding with this post. I headed out to check on the gardens and yards after doing some stretching on the back porch and donning my gum boots as the dew is quite heavy here in the mornings. The gardens look great all except for the two egg plants so I took them out of the ground and repotted them in hopes of saving them.
We headed out for Galax around 9:30 and it was after 1:30 before getting back as we made several stops in town as I was looking for some items to have the generator up and running if we need it this year; but after checking with Harbor Freight and Lowes they had none in store so it looks as if I'll be ordering those items on line, oh well. I did get a few items at Lowes for the new chain saw son Bobby purchased for me. I had dropped Nancy off at Wal-Mart to shop while I ran some errands and then came back to meet her with a shopping cart full of goodies. We loaded up the truck then made one more stop at the veggie stand for some goodies before heading back to the cabin.
The perfect morning temps had now turned hot with temps in the 90's yikes that is so unusual for here as there is some kind of heat dome that has taken over the atmosphere these next couple of days. Thankfully we have the mini split a/c which keeps us quite comfortable, plus I have the always cool basement which I can retire to when working outside and want to rest for a few minutes to cool off. I had purchased some new seeds at the farm store in Galax so I sowed some new black seeded Simpson lettuce seeds as well as some new half runner bean seeds as some of my old seeds didn't germinate. I had hand watered the gardens early in the morning and while there was some wilting due to the high heat everything looked good. I'll pick rasp berries this morning(tues) and hand water again as well as harvest some lettuces as we entertain neighbors this evening with supper and card games.
We will make jelly in the next day or so as the berries are ripening and oh so delicious as we purchased some items necessary for that ordeal which is a big deal. The kids and grands love the results as do we as well. I'm getting excited for Amy and family to come around the 5th of July so we are once again stocking up for them and I'll need to get the fences up around the gardens to keep Rocky from running through them. We will watch him for a few days while they visit family from Kansas in Tennessee. Its always a fun time with him as he likes to run and play on the hills.
Well after getting back from church I soon hit the shower and was ready for some horizontal lab alone as Nancy is now sleeping on the leather couch every other night to give me at least a good nights sleep from her incessant snoring, LATER
