Well Monday was almost like a summer day with high heat and humidity, wow we are slated for some cooler temps this latter part of the week and I'm ready for something below 80 degrees and hopefully a little rain as well. I ran errands while Nancy was in the kitchen baking Christmas cookies. I think she made three different kinds yesterday and I must admit it sure takes a ton of will power not to eat at least one of each but I persevered and passed them up. I must confess the cinnamon sugar coated pecans that Kathryn blessed us with Sunday Night are addicting as I did have a handful of them to satiate my cravings for something sweet, oh well!
I started the day much the usual with a before 6 wake up. After my morning tea with my unusual concoctions of fresh ginger and ground turmeric I spent a few quiet moments with my Creator and then posted this ramble of yesterday's activities. Some day after I'm long gone I hope my grand children will open these daily ramblings and learn a little about us. I at times wish I could write about us pioneering ourselves into an unknown land where we had to live off the land and make do with whatever was at hand. They will probably think we live in the dark ages as I refuse to have an I-phone or whatever it is that everyone is always on while driving on the highways, or sitting at a table eating or playing cards or just sitting around. I don't see the attraction of being glued to one of the devices that demand so much attention. We do use the Internet but not to the extent it takes the place of actual human interactions.
I decided when I retired from the demanding job of always being available at a moments notice that I didn't want a watch or a beeper or a cell phone. I really was tired of always being on call or being someplace at a specific time. I think that's why I love the cabin so much. We do have all of the communications available to the outside world but the peace and tranquility is immeasurably in the mountains. I want to hear the birds, smell the flowers and woods, breathe the fresh air and see no one for days and especially not having to respond to some hand held means of communications. I have friends who can not sit at the supper table or set and play a card game without constantly being on their phone. To me that's allowing a device to control you and not the other way around, oh well!!! We see today where so many can not even drive without having one in their hands and that definitely is a danger to not only themselves but to others on the highway. Just yesterday a mother was killed leaving a 2 year old when she ran off the road while texting and over turned killing her and leaving the toddler severely injured, yikes!!
Well that was about it for the day as Nancy baked cookies and I piddle around. I'm staying away from pickle ball until after Christmas as I want to completely give these knees a rest and hopefully healed. Amy and Eliza Faye came for lunch and then I played with her after running some errands. I filled up at a 1.89 a gallon for gas which is the lowest I've seen here in Florida for some time. I made a Sam's Club run and then did an Aldi stop as well before heading home. Boy it is rather warm here for being a few days before Christmas. I remember a couple years back it was this warm as well and then again I've seen it freeze my tomato's solid overnight at this time of the year. I use to go swimming every Christmas day in years past and if I still had my above ground pool I would do it this year for sure, LATER
