Wednesday Morning

Well Tuesday was another work day around the cabin and then later in the evening I got in a couple hours of pickle ball. It was another very warm day down off the mountain and while it did reach the middle 80's we weren't uncomfortable. I did stay out of the afternoon sun around 3'ish and read for a couple hours and even took a 10 minute power nap while doing so.

The day started with a before 6 roll out to such stillness in the area. and I did my usual routines and then a few quiet moments. A few birds were singing and now we have a robin nesting in the blue spruce in the front yard. The rabbits were out as I checked the yards before heading out to look for slugs and we have lots of cottontails this year and yet so far they haven't caused any damage to the gardens. I have the chicken wire fence ready to put up if and when they do start to become a pest. I installed the new router so instead of being in the bedroom looking at the wall where my phone jack comes into the cabin I'm now sitting in the dining room bump out with cool air slipping through the screened windows and it feels marvelous.

I think today(Wed) it's supposed to be very hot once again. A friend from Wilmington, N.C. said it reached 116 yesterday there and Charlotte N.C. was over a 100 degrees, Yikes. We stayed in the middle 80's on the back porch and even inside it was comfortable with the ceiling fans on. By late evening it was very comfortable and Nancy even closed some of the windows before retiring for the night. She has become a night owl and me I'm ready for some horizontal lab around 10:30 or so.

I finished power washing the deck a little before noon as well as the steps to the porches and then decided to bleach the dormer which has a little mildew near the roof line. I opened the upstairs bathroom window which gives me access to the roof and when I did there was a nest of yellow jacket type bees that had a nest in between the window frame which wasn't visible from the outside. Well needless to say they buzzed me as I hadn't got completely out the window and onto the roof and did they ever sting me in a couple places. I managed to get the window back down keeping the bees outside so after dark I took some drastic measures to eradicate the nest, first with bleach sprayed into the nest and then a shot of Black Flag insect spray. Hopefully that will get rid of them and now I will be on alert when trying to crawl out that window as Nancy has a fit every time I go out on the roof, oh well it's a good thing I listened to her this time or I would still be out there waiting for the nasty critters to settle down.

We got our hike in just before eating our big meal of the day as I had pickle ball at 6:30 so we ate leftovers from the night before which tasted as good or even better. I piddled around outside in the gardens and yards until it was time to get in out of the hot sun and onto the back porch which was in the shade with a nice gentle breeze moving the air around. The basement was in the 50's and very nice but I hadn't got that hot yet so we settled into reading and she on her Ipad. That was about all of the notables worth mentioning for the day, LATER
