Well after cloudy start the day turned out beautiful with temps in the low 70's, yeow what is with this weather and there was snow on Grandfather Mountain Sunday morning, oh well. It's back in the 90's in Florida after one morning of down in the 60's.
I started the day much the usual with my routines and then some quiet time lifting up several by name but we got a shock around mid morning when we got a text informing us that a first cousin passed away from a heart attack at work. He had some issues a couple years ago with his heart but since he was in his 60's he seemed to have made a great recovery. For years he let himself go with booze and smokes and it finally caught up with him.
I worked down on our driveway for a couple hours and then pulled up all of my zinnias and cut the heads off for drying to be used next summer for seeds. They were about 3-4 feet in height and some had as many as 5-6 heads per plant. I gathered a 5 gallon bucket full of the heads. I need to do the marigolds next as well to save the seeds for planting both here and in Florida. They are a great natural deterrent to nematodes which are tiny microscopic worms that suck the life out of plants. That kept me busy for most of the morning and early afternoon. I had a rather large breakfast of leftover steak, fried eggs and grits so I skipped lunch. Nancy did make a couple loaves of pumpkin nut bread which right out of the oven was awesome with fresh butter, yeow. We took half a loaf over to our mountain mom Helen and the other half up to Joe and Jetta.
We took off on a hike to the top of the mountain and the back road is the best I've ever seen it with all of the gravel and grading the county road dept. did while filling in the wash out on the main road. They did get it filled in with huge boulders, netting and fill dirt enough the folks on top could get in and out. This was a major repair and they yet have to hard top it with asphalt. We are trying to eat down the freezer so I made deer tacos for our supper and some canned spinach and fries. We settled into the Fox Cable News channel until it was time to flip between the ball games and until it was shower time. Afterwards I was ready for some horizontal around 10:30, LATER
