Saturday

Well Friday was a good day for working outside with temps in the upper 50's to start the day and as the day wore on the overcast skies gave way to mostly sunshine. It did reach the upper 60's by evening and while I grilled out on the deck it was most pleasant in a short sleeve shirt. We stayed around the cabin except for our daily hike to the top just before lunch and Nancy took the golf cart out to the mailbox after lunch.

The morning was much the usual with a 7'ish wake up then a hot cup of green tea with my quiet time before a breakfast of soft boiled eggs over grits, yeow is that ever tasty with a little hot sauce to wake up the taste buds. I turned the heater up as the cabin had a slight chill and afterwards we cut it back to the pilot for the day until late evening as the temps dropped after dark. I weed whacked the yards and that will probably be the last time this year as the grass has just about stopped growing except for some straggly weeds. That kept me busy until we headed out for the top of the mountain. The views were awesome and once more the buildings in downtown Winston were visible. The top of the mountain was lonely as we saw no one on our hike.

We decided to finish up the last of the sardines with some sweet onion, mustard and crackers for lunch which is one of our favorites then we munched on a sweet apple. We are going to try the apple a day routine for its health benefits instead of the carbs as we are trying to lose a few pounds. So far I think I may have dropped an ounce or two with a few changes to my eating habits. At least I feel thinner in my mind. After lunch I fired up the riding mower and mowed all of the yards except for the very backwoods yard as its now covered in fallen leaves and the grass isn't growing there as well. When Ava and Sam get here I will take the leaf blower and make huge piles of leaves for them to play in.

After all the mowing I decided to the rid the outside cabin walls of the black mildew that came with all of the rain and fog this summer so I loaded up the bean sprayer with bleach. That is amazing how quickly the black stuff disappears with just a lite coat. I need to take the ladder out tomorrow and get the upper boards as well. The cabin looks as if I just stained it again as it comes that clean. I decided to repot some tomato seedlings I started from a tomato sister Dee brought me in Sept. from her garden in Woodstock. They decided to sprout while we were in Florida and I think there are at least 8 seedlings that are about 3-4 inches in height.

After that job I sowed some lettuces; romaine, bib and red leaf that I hope will sprout and I can take back also for my winter garden. We are salad lovers and its strange as the lettuces grow wonderfully in Florida in the winter but I have a very difficult time to grow it here in the cool mountains when lettuce is a cool weather vegetable. It must be the soil is all I can figure out. I do plan on moving the lettuces next year to a different patch here at the cabin and filling it in with lots of Alpaca droppings from the Dalton Farm.

Well that was about it from Friday as we had grilled brats, fresh broccoli and a salad for supper. I started a new read from Karen Robards and then we watched the Fox News with their new lineup after supper. We do miss Shepard Smith at 7 but Greta has a nice show and of course we love Bill O'Reilly. I tuned into a little of the game between the Dodgers and Cardinals which were tied when I hit the shower around 10 and then to read until lights out for me around 11, LATER   Nancy had her camera out and if you noticed all of the flower beds are whacked down as well as some color in the leaves around the cabin. It will probably another week or so before it really gets pretty.
