Well Thursday was a work day after a foggy start and a light rain just around day break. It eventually cleared off with blue skies, bright sunshine and once again up into the 80's. Wow that a/c has really helped with the heat and humidity. I worked outside all day and have the place looking good for another week. I think the grass will soon be starting to slow down its growth as Fall approaches but you wouldn't know it today as the high pressure is helping to steer Florence away from us here in the mountains. It has really helped with the upper winds shearing off some of that energy and keeping this huge storm from becoming a giant killer but she will still bring some rain which we all can handle up to a point.
I started the day much the usual with a 6'ish rollout to my routines which include hot green tea laced with turmeric and a slice of fresh ginger root while I post this ramble and spend some quiet moments with my Creator in humble prayer and thanksgiving and then lifting up several by name for comfort and healing. One special lady friend passed onto a better place just yesterday morning as she had battled cancer for a couple years. She was a true Believer and such a great talented lady. She will be missed greatly especially at church in Seminole. Everyone else seems to be doing as well as can be expected. Our "mountain mom" is fully recovered from her bout and is back to being spry at 90+ as she chauffeured her brother around yesterday who is a year older.
Neighbor Gerald came up from Blacksburg to spend a couple days as he wanted to finish one of his deer stands. We spent a couple hours together catching up and once again showed me the working on his tractor in case I need to use it for any reason but mainly any issues from the storm; such as tree removal and or road work from the expected rain. We had a good visit just before supper in the heat of the afternoon. I managed to mow all the yards and stack some wood for neighbor Joe who is doing so much better now that the wood splinters have been removed from his hand. He showed them to us and they were rather large pieces and makes us wonder how 5 doctors ever missed them which caused him a lot of trouble with doctor appointments and then taking all of those antibiotics for weeks.
We got in a good hike just before lunch and the high heat of the afternoon. We saw several large deer along the way. I piddled around in the woods while waiting for the grass to dry, cutting out some brush along our boundary line while looking for some lighter knot as a fire starter for Joe and Helen. He will burn wood this winter for heat and she just loves to burn all of her tree trimmings down by her lake. With all this rain coming it will be awhile before it dries out enough to burn anything, oh well. I piddled around in the garden loosening the compacted earth and then pulled grasses again as this wet soil makes for getting the roots out.
I grilled some brats and sweet onions for summer and along with leftover runner beans and taters we feasted once again. Today Friday we will check on our friends along the coast of the Carolinas's and keep an eye on Florence. I did manage to get in some read time before a hot shower and then some horizontal lab, LATER
