Well Sunday morning found us waking at 5:30 with the alarm clock signaling it was time to get Bobby and the kiddos up and on their way back to Florida after a whirlwind week of fun times. He had the car packed except for the last little things and then strapping the kiddos in their car seats and within 20 minutes he was headed down off the mountain. It was sad to see them go and an emptiness filled my heart immediately. We still had Tammy, Rich and Brooke upstairs for another couple hours before they too headed out a little before 9.
We worked feverishly the next 45 minutes to put the cabin in order before heading out to Cornerstone for corporate worship as we had invited the Tracy's and Carlan's back to our place to finish up the leftovers from the day before. I vacuumed and put all of the toy's in a chest and carried them back upstairs and then hauled the sheets and towels to the basement to be washed later in the week. We headed out for worship and learned that Darren and Peggy Woodie was moving to the Wilmington area and this was their last Sunday. They have been great workers for the youth and have been in charge of getting workers for many of the big events especially the concerts we have held at Cornerstone over the years. They will be greatly missed.
We headed home and heated up the grill and the leftovers and we were fed completely even with brownies, hot fudge and ice cream for dessert. Yikes, there goes my spare tire. The sun was shining initially when everyone arrived and there was plans for another croquet game but the skies clouded up and it rained off and on until dark and at time a "gully washer". I managed to go out between storms as the wind blew down by recently planted poles for the bird egg beans to grown on and there was an inch and half of rain in the rain gauge. I'm sure the driveway is full of ruts once again so I will have to load up the rake on the golf cart and smooth them out sometime today Monday if the rain stops. It rained softly for most of the night as I could hear it on the tin roof.
Instead of of croquet outside we settled into "sequence" and the boys put a whupping on the girls in the best of 3 games with the last game 3-0. Yeow was there ever some jawing and accusations of cheating when we(boys) win but never when the girls win, oh well it was a fun time and we enjoy this new found friendship of Sam and Marcia. It's too bad they live so far away in Elk Creek, Va which is north of Independence. They still come over to Sparta to church on Sundays and now attend the Methodist Church where our "mountain mom" Helen attends.
Well we got a call around 5'ish that Bobby had just dropped the kiddos off at their mothers house and now he was heading for his. The trip went smoothly all except we forgot to include their water bottles in the cooler with their other drinks when they left. The kiddos talked about all of the fun things they did and holding the new little bunnies was one of the most memorable things they did. I'm sure they will have many great memories from this vacation to the cabin as well. Well I finished the Lee Child book and started on the biography of George Carter the 9th wealthiest man in America in the 20's who was from Hillsville, Va. Hillsville is near us on the other side of Galax, Va.and his house is next door to the infamous courthouse slaying that took place in the time frame of the sinking of the Titanic, LATER Here are a few pics I took after church before the rain washed out the rest of the afternoon.
