Thursday Morning (leaving the cabin for Va. then onto Pa.)

Well Wednesday was a touristy type of day as the 6 of us(Florida friends) met up around noon and traveled up the parkway about 50 plus miles to Mabry Mills and Chateau Morrisette Winery. We got back to the cabin around 5'ish or a little after and started on a delicious supper of kabobs which Kathryn had brought. We decided while we already on this side of the county to just eat at our place to save time and travel.

The morning started with just the two of us as the Botbyl's spent the night at the Tracy's. We slept in until 7'ish then decided we had lots of chores to do before we left for the excursion up the parkway. We put in a couple loads of laundry and had them on the line all before breakfast. I did my usual routine(s) before finishing up the leftover cakes and then checked all of the gardens. I now have corn poking through the soil in the 9 packs but I think or hope they will live in them while I'm gone for the next 5 days then I'll transplant them into the garden when I get back.

The gang showed up around noon and we were ready to go. We traveled in 2 vehicles as it was too uncomfortable in one especially with Patrick's back in the achy mode once again. We stopped at the Mill for a photo shoot and a look around. We watched a park employee work the spinning wheel turning sheep's wool into yard and what eventually would be clothing. She was very informative and even let Carol give it a try. We then spoke with the park employee who makes furniture and what I learned fascinated me with the use of hickory bark in making chair seats and the use of the white oak wood for making the support parts of the chair vs the heavier hickory wood. He was very interesting and imparted a tremendous amount knowledge.

The winery was much the same as most of them. The building was huge and only the gals did the tasting. Even that event has cheapen as they no longer give you your glass but charge you double for a taste of 10 varieties, oh well!! I purchased some to take with us on our trip but as I remember from the last time there the wine wasn't all that great and just a little over priced; but the parking lot was full as well as was the tasting room.

It was a bit warm out as we traveled back to the cabin and the temp's fell the higher in altitude we climbed. It was nearly 90 when we left that area of the parkway and was back down to 82 at the cabin. Luckily it wasn't very humid but that changed later in the evening as the threat of rain became evident; however none fell. I grilled chicken kabobs and we had left over mac and cheese, squash casserole and guacamole along with other cheese dips and a little vino. Neighbor Gerald came by and showed us his bruises where he slipped and fell on the scaffolding and tore up his knee which will require surgery later this month. He accepted our invite for supper and added avocado's to the fare of which we made the guacamole from.

Well after the clean up the gang of 4 left for their cabin as did Gerald so we walked around the perimeter of the back yard a few times to get some form of exercise as we have missed our regular daily hike this past week. I can already feel the tightness in the belly bulge from all of the delicious rich foods and the lack of our regular hikes to the top of the mountain, oh well!! We will start this cycle over once again this next 5 days as we travel north for family get together's and of course more good eatin'. LATER
