Well I must say that Saturday was a day to remember that started with a 7 ish roll out after a busy day and evening on Friday. The kiddos all were awake and down stairs around 7:30 and they were filled with energy and love for one another. Their parents came down the stairs around 8"ish and then the day started with a breakfast that included the works. You name it we had it and oh how everything tastes so grand here in this mountain air. I had no idea there was a big surprise coming to me around 4 o'clock.
We set up the visqueen on the backwoods yard and brought out the hose and bubbles and all the kiddos changed into their bathing suits. I must say they has some exhilarating rides down the 40 ft or so slide. Bobby and Tyler gave it a few wild rides as well. There were a few bumps and scrapes and a few tears and Leelee(Eliza Faye) only gave it one chance before she bowed out of the activity. I forgot to mention every one first took a huge hike to the top of the mountain before the slip and slide fun. Well the kiddos were in their own little world as they played in the woods, yards and just exploring while chasing bugs.
Sister Dee and husband Mike came sometime around lunch time and we sat on the front porch talking and visiting. We even got into a game of corn toss when vehicles started to arrive and by 4'ish the driveway was packed with cars. Lots of our neighbors and close friends from Florida arrived and I still had no idea this was a surprise 70th(early) birthday party for me. Well I was moved to tears and humbled to think these folks came to honor me. There were several mountain folks as well and the food was so plentiful. I learned there was some bribery to the kiddos to keep the secret and they sure did. I was so surprised and humbled.
Well the party went on until late in the night with a brief interruption to assist with a stranded motorist who got hung up in the woods behind us. His GPS brought him into a woods trail and he nearly rolled the car over. Luckily all of the men from the party assisted as well as neighbor Gerald with his tractor or he would still be hung up in the woods. We got him on his way after chopping up some stumps and several men holding his car from sliding down the embankment while Gerald pulled the car forward with a chain attacked to his tractor that used a tree as a pulley, Wow even help by folks on top of the mountain who heard our efforts and also came to assist.
Well after baths and showers and we finally got settled down and hit the sack some time close to midnight for some. It took a awhile to settle down as both Nancy and I were keyed up. I'm so thankful for the love shown to me and I still marvel at how they planned this event last winter and kept it a secret from me. I was totally surprised, Later
We stopped several times during the day to marvel at this beautiful creation that we can share with family and friends to give thanks for this blessing.
Nancy posted pics on FB but failed to put any on the app so I could post on my blog..I will do so later
