Tuesday Morning..August 6th..My Big Day

Well Monday was nearly another perfect day with cool temps in the morning after a somewhat cloudy start of the day until mid morning then the skies cleared and it was beautiful except for some rumbling in the distant; but it stayed dry. We could see rain down off the mountain when we took our evening hike but we stayed dry. The mornings are heavy with dew as I'm writing this post its dripping down off the dormer onto the tin roof. It's rather quiet around since we have no guests in the house and none scheduled until mid October. We had Larry and Brandon come out and install the new cultured marble vanity top in the downstairs bathroom. That was a job and they managed to use most of the plumbing except for the p-trap.

Well I started the day much the usual with a 6'ish roll out to my proverbial cup of hot green tea laced with turmeric while I posted this ramble and spent some time with my Creator giving thanks and lifting several up by name for comfort, healing and even miracles as well as for those who were gunned down the past day. At this point in time those I personally know are still doing as well as can be expected due to their health and age issues. We did visit our "mountain mom" Helen in the afternoon and blessed her with some leftovers. We had leftovers for lunch and then again for supper which in my opinion usually has more flavor than when originally prepared. I grew up on them but we know folks who will not even eat leftover pizza.

Larry and Brandon while waiting for me to head to the local hardware store for the new p-trap headed down to neighbor Gerald's place and fixed his clawfoot tub which has leaked over the years. It seems it needed a very unusual adapter on the supply lines which had to be ordered as no one around here parts carried the parts. They finished both of these projects and while I was going to install the top I'm sure glad I had them do it and it was well worth the coast. I'm now through any renovations or modification hopefully on the cabin for this year. I over spent my budget but it seems well worth it. I just need to pay the property taxes this month which did go up a couple hundred bucks.

I did get a reprieve from leaving the middle of October back to Florida for Katie's baby shower in Brandon. Bobby mentioned that Nancy should have a baby shower for Katie the same day we are having Anns and Gabe's birthday dinner at our house for the Pinellas County folks who won't be able to attend the Brandon one. That date will be the first week in November which gives us to the 28th of October to leave for Florida; makes sense to me and makes me happy to stay an additional 10 days. Nancy say's she needs 5 day to shop, clean, cook and prepare for both same day events. I think that was a great idea and it takes care of both events in one day.

Well we did get some laundry out on the clothesline and I did some piddling in the garden as well as around the yard. The large tomato plants have now set some fruit. The cherry tomato plants are over my head so I staked them with some fencing material and they now have plenty of fruit set. The Heavenly Blue morning glory plant has now reached the base of the arbor and I'm hoping it will produce some beautiful flowers. All of the flower beds are really shaping up and now if the deer will just stay away we should have some awesome pictures to share.

Things are quiet here but we are busy as we get ready to leave for 4 days on Friday to the Winchester, Va. area for reunions with my kin folks and friends in the small community of Mountain Falls. It got its name from about a 100+ foot water falls in the area. We had a stop sign with 3 roads intersecting, two of which were gravel and one hard surfaced asphalt. The intersection had a store that had a post office, one gas pump and which sold a little of all the necessities that weren't grown by the locals. The same family had the store for as long as I can remember. I grew up with my grandmother who lived in a small house next to the store until I was 4 or 5 before my uncle Billie(Paw Paw) took me to raise with him and his wife JoAnn. They eventually had three girls who call me their brother to this day.We lived on a small farm which raised hogs, chickens, milk cows, mules and a huge garden for canning etc. around 6-7 miles from the community store in Mt.Falls on another dirt road. I lived with them until I graduated high school at the age of 17 then I left home for college in North Carolina and eventually with the USAF. I did return occasionally and then every year when possible to visit family.

I could go on but as I reflect back from these 55 years after graduation I have lived an exciting an adventurous life in the military and law enforcement and I did it with out any financial support from family and or the government except for moral support along the way. I always give thanks for this exciting life and I hope to continue blessing others as I have been blessed. I pinch myself everyday that I'm as full of vigor and energy while having a good mind. GOD has truly blessed me and my family and I'm grateful for the experiences of life as I share with family and friends in so many ways; but mainly with doing to others as I would have them do to me. A biblical principal that preaches love which is being eroded today with this political mindset propagated by the left that spew's such hate for the unborn, our law enforcement community and military, our duly elected Potus Trump, the rule of law and worst of all our Judeo-Christian principles this nation was founded on.
