Tuesday Morning..July 2

Well Monday found us once again with beautiful temps to start the day and then by late afternoon the heat was back into the upper 80's. The humidity wasn't bad but we did turn the a/c on later in the evening. Nancy and I assisted a vet who came out to check the pregnancy status on 9 mares at the Luffman Farm which was a first for me. We had our milk cows artificially inseminated on the farm and the procedure was much the same except the vet when up the rectum to feel around for the fetus and insert a camera to see within, very interesting to say the least. More on that later.

I started the day much the usual with a well before 6 roll out as I had lots of projects on my mine and the last minute addition of assisting the vet came up when our young buddy Caleb was delayed in leaving for the USAF from Charlotte where his mom and grandma were there to see him off. I did my morning routines that start with a cup of hot green tea laced with turmeric and fresh ginger while I posted this ramble and then lifted up several by name during my quiet time. There were lots of tears the past couple of days not only by us but for those we are close to. With baby Finnley passing and then Caleb leaving home it was rather solemn at times especially for Caleb's mom Mechelle who broke down once again before we left the farm yesterday evening.

I headed out to check on the gardens and all seem well with no damage thus far. I did hand water with the hose a bit after getting back from the farm. I headed down in the basement before breakfast to paint about 2/3's of the floor with a roller. I'm hoping the lockdown primer will hold the paint this time and I'm planning on using a sealer as well in about 3 days after curing for the paint. I added those paint flecks to give the floor some added color. After a breakfast of a leftover pancake and a yogurt we got ready for the furniture company to deliver our two new queen size box springs, mattresses and frames. Well everything went good initially until the men tried to get the box springs up the stairs and they would not fit going up the steps. It seems the hall way and the stairs made for a too tight fit despite me taking off some moulding trim and a few boards on the overhead stairwell. They decided the only solution was to get two box springs for each mattress which is half the size and much like the sets for a king size bed. We were thankful for the company taking back the box springs and ordering these now what will be 4 sets of the smaller box springs. We never gave that a thought when ordering the larger beds for this small cabin, oh well.

If the new smaller box springs don't come in time for the arrival of the family they can sleep on just the mattresses, no big deal. At least they will have a larger sleeping area. After they left I had to reassemble the ripped off moulding and boards and by then we got a call that Gerald at the farm would need help with the horses as Mechelle and Kay were being delayed getting back home. Nancy was planning on going over later in the afternoon to assist with the horse club Mechelle has every week for youngster to come and get to know horses, ride a little and do some grooming. We headed out around 1 after a quick lunch on the parkway and got almost to the turn off for Rt.21 when a huge oak tree had fallen crossing the roadway and totally blocking any travel. We managed to turn around and head back towards the cabin and take a different route. We have heard of this happening where the tree fell on a vehicle killing the occupants. This was a huge oak and we later came to find out there were two trees that fell close to one another.

Gerald had the horses in the barn and individual stables when we got there. A few needed to be anesthetized because of their high energy while being checked to see if they were pregnant and some needed a twitch which is the nose is put in a small circle of rope and twisted which causes the animal to settle down and forget about the process of having a long arm up their rectum. I held the imaging machine and assisted with calming down the horses. It was a first for me in seeing what the vet saw and how far along the pregnancy was in days and months. The gestation of a horse is roughly 11 1/2 months  and we had one mare who would foal in about 30-40 days.

After the vet was finished Gerald and I took off to check on a tool to assist with replacing the stubborn water filter I could not get off at the cabin. The two of us managed together to get the filter off and replaced it with a new one. We made sure to not over tighten this one and to grease the O ring with vaseline. That was a headache which had bothered me since getting back to the cabin this summer. I could see the discoloration in the filter but could not find a wrench big enough but with two wrenches and muscle power of both of us at one time we managed, hallelujah.

I dropped Gerald off, back at the farm and picked up Nancy and we soon headed home. We had fresh ground beef from the butcher shop which she hadn't packed up yet so it was delicious grilled burgers and chips for supper. I headed back down to the basement after the cleanup and moved all of the stuff to the painted side of the basement floor then gave it a good vacuuming before painting the lockdown primer. I will paint the floor today(tue) and then wait until it cures before giving it a coat of sealer. Well it was going on 9 before I decided to call it a day and check on the Ray's game. The Ross Family was at the Trop for the game as the ticket prices were down to 2 bucks a piece in order to fill the stands. The attendance is at the bottom of the league along with the Miami team and there is rumors the team may move to Canada part time. That would be a big loss for St.Pete/Tampa area. They were winning when I hit the shower and then some horizontal after 10:30, LATER
