Well Labor Day was celebrated here on the mountain as we hung around the cabin except for several hikes up to the top through out the day. Steve is an animal when it comes to hiking as we took three together and he took one by himself. What a difference when your 69 instead of 74 years of age.
I started the day with a semi sleep in until nearly 7'ish for a change. We were trying to stay quiet as our guests were still upstairs in bed but they are usually early risers like me and somewhat early to bed between 10 and 11 at night, which is my cup of tea. We did stay up and play games until after 10 a couple nights but last night after a raucous game of domino's I hit the shower and was ready for some horizontal lab by 10'ish. We did stay tuned to the Lightning game and when I cut it off they were up 5-1 in the second period.
Steve and Sheri ran restaurant(s) for several years and he made us biscuits and sausage gravy along with eggs for our breakfast, delicious and it reminded me of the breakfasts we use to get during my USAF days while in basic training. I skipped lunch as that carb meal kept me satisfied except for a little pickled cauliflower during the early afternoon. Steve and I hiked first thing in the morning, then again after breakfast and then again after supper. The girls actually did hike before supper.
We sat outside on the deck around noon and played several card games until the sun moved us to the front porch. Sheri and I did some paper work regarding our cruise to Alaska next May as we wanted to put that behind us until then. Many of the excursions like the whale watching ones are already filled up, so we wanted to make sure our reservations are in order. We also checked out some other excursions with our on board funds which was a great promotion by the cruise line.
We looked at some property that may accommodate their motor home they are getting this month for future trips to here in the mountains; both are close together and one already has a septic for a motor coach and has power on the site. They want to check with their grand's to see if coming to the mountains during the summer is preferable to lake side property which they are checking out. They have fallen for these vistas and ambiance as did we and we love their company.
Well I must say Nancy is a winner always on domino's and I mean a big winner and I'm usually the big loser. Our guests love the game as it was their first exposure to "chicken foot dominos". Speaking of chickens we stopped for a few to visit with neighbor Gerald and once again he has small peeps in his new chicken coop. They are just a few days old and he already is getting them ready for the winter with a light in the coop for warmth. It's been down into the high 40's on top pf the mountains and we have had low 50's for a couple mornings in a row and the a/c has been off for a couple days now with the gentle breeze and no humidity. We did get a couple loads of laundry for us out on the clothesline yesterday and they have such a delicious smell.
I cut up a whole chicken and grilled it and Nancy made a spinach casserole for our supper as we dined outside on the deck in the beautiful evening ambiance. Today the plan is to take them kayaking for their first time ever down the New River. We will do a 2 hour float which should be great in these beautiful cool temps with bright sunshine. It will be our first trip this summer as well.
Well that was about it for Labor Day, LATER
