Yikes the weather during the night reminded us of the hurricane we experienced in Florida back in the 70's with feeder bands of rain and wind. We could hear the whine of the wind as it whipped through the hills and woods much like the engine noise of an airplane throughout the night. At times I thought the roof was coming off and the rain plastered the windows with such force it's difficult to believe they didn't break. Oh well we are still standing and it's a wonder we never lost power or the Internet. It's a different outcome for the beautiful leaves that were saturated with rain and fog for the past couple days as I see the yards just covered with them. I hate to say this but I think we witnessed what "peak" there was for this year as this storm has destroyed many of those leaves that were changing colors. Already many leaves were on the ground due to the wet conditions over the last several days before this present storm which is to last until sometime on Wednesday.
We started Monday once again with fog, drizzle and overcast conditions as it's has been that way for the past couple of days. I didn't realize there wasn't any mail on this Columbus Day so I fired up the golf cart and headed to the mailbox to get birthday cards and ballots in the mail. It was a wet and rather chilly ride out at that time of the day to no avail. We spent the rest of the morning in the warm cozy cabin until just before lunch when we decided to get our hike out of the way for the day. We had on jackets with hoods, hats and our gum boots as it was dripping wet from the drizzle and fog. We made another stop at Shawnee's cabin and closed some windows as well as turned out another porch light. I think we have it secured at this time. We headed on down across the mountain and stopped and chatted with Joe, Jetta and Dean with regards to Norm's funeral arrangements. The service will be in Winston on Thursday so we will not be able to attend as we will have family in town for that day and several days afterwards.
We headed on down the mountain in the fog to a late lunch of leftover salad and spaghetti. That held us the rest of the day and evening except for a bowl of pop corn made the old fashion way. I worked outside in the lower garden as the drizzle let up. I decided since I have a difficult time growing anything in the last half of the lower garden because of the lack of sunlight on that area, that I would do away with that section. I moved the fence and put in new posts and stretched the wire around that section then loaded it up with leaves from the woods. I want to till them in the ground as soon as the ground dries out and get them composted for next years growing season. That chore kept me busy until after 4 when the fog and drizzle once more inundated us.
We sat and read until it was news time. We spoke with Bobby on his way home from work and he had a great weekend celebrating Annsley's 7th birthday again. He took the kiddos over to Seminole to play with Amy's kiddos and they had a great time together as well as a delicious supper which included GG. He is getting excited about bringing his kiddos here to the cabin for a long week-end in November. The baseball playoff game was cancelled due to weather so I tuned into the NFL game until half time then it was off to the shower for me and then some reading time as I finished another Sandra Brown read. We are buttoned down here on the mountain as the wind and rain continue to lash the area. At least it's in the 60's which is tolerable but supposed to drop down into the 40's in the next day or so, brrr! LATER
