Tuesday Morning in North Carolina

Well Monday was another busy day with super nice temps and by late evening a much needed rain fall of over a half inch. We worked around here all day and even up until nearly 9 o'clock as we get ready for company, plus we are still getting the cabin, the yards and garden in shape. What a job that has been and we still haven't found the time or energy to take our first hike up our mountain which has majestic views from the top.

My internal alarm clock is back on with a before 6 wake up despite the long hours and physical work and just walking up and down these yards is workout. I rolled out just as the skies were starting to lighten. The peacefulness here is so outstanding and at time almost to quiet as we hear every little noise from the distant cry of a crow and the sound of the dew as it drops onto the tin roof from the dormer to the singing of the birds in the trees that surround our place and I must mention the fragrance in the clean air emanating from the woods and flowers. The wild roses and blackberry bushes are in full splendor and have such a delicious smell; excuse me while I digress about all of the amenities of being in the mountains and being surrounded by GOD'S creations that we seldom ever mention.

Well back to Monday's activities of course we started with a few quiet moments to reflect , give thanks and lift up those we know who are needing some special supernatural considerations during this time of crisis. Some needs are more urgent than others especially regarding health issues. I find our nation is in dire need for some competent leadership who love and want us(USA) to succeed and be that beacon of hope we once were for the rest of the world. After our quiet times and the posting of this ramble I ventured out with my hot cup of green tea to check on the gardens. Well much to my chagrin those pesky slugs are back in full force in the gardens. I smashed a couple dozen on the new seedlings and so I sprinkled some slug poison around the gardens as these critters will eat a whole plant during the night. I think I dislike them more than the squirrels who terrorize my garden in Florida. I noticed I have radishes breaking the ground after only 3 days since sowing.

We ate a lite breakfast then neighbor Carl called and mention he had a plum tree cut down on his property and if I wanted the wood for my smoker I was welcome to it. Lowes called and said they would deliver our new washer before lunch and they did and took away our old one. Nancy had 3 loads of clothes on the line with a couple hours and even a fourth load later in the afternoon as she rewashes all of the linens for company coming. I headed over to Carl's and on the way Dean Todd came by and we reset the post and gate on the driveway to help keep out unwanted visitors while we are gone. Seems once again the plant bandit made off with some expensive perennials we planted last summer as we fine the bare spots where they once flourished, oh well!!!

I worked up the plum limbs and then piled the rest for him and cleared his yards as he is re-couping from a recent knee replacement, I did my good deed for the day. We had a lite lunch then I settled into some catch up work such as taking the lawn mower blades off and sharpening them, sowing a couple more rows of bush beans after working the ground by hand and then the big chore was cleaning out the basement which included vacuuming and moping. I hoping to touch up the floor where some of the paint has peeled before company arrives on Friday.

Our dinner plans where changed as we were to meet with the Botbyl's who flew in from Florida in the AM and with the Tracy's who drove in from Florida today as well but those changed at the last minute. That gave me another couple more hours to hand clean the carpet in the upstairs bedrooms and hall, Wow, that was a job despite the area being rather small but I was on my hands and knees for what seemed like hours. We ate lite for supper with fresh green beans and a baked spud after a glass of vino. We are hoping to keep our spare tires deflated with all of this physical work and with our portion control and entree selections. I know all of that will change with the wedding this week-end and having tons of company here as we have some marvelous cooks in the mix, LATER
